The polydiacetylenes are a class of polymers that are attrac ting increasing attention worldwide. There are many reasons for this interest one of the most important being the availability of many polydiacetylenes as macroscopic, high quality, single crystals. This fact was first reported in the pioneering work of Prof. G. Hegner on the solid-state polymerization of disub stituted diacetylenes in the late 1960s. Since then studies of the polymerization process and the properties of monomers and polymers have advanced understanding of solid-state reactivity and the physiCS of quasi-one-dimensional materials. More recently work on soluble polydiacetylenes, gels and films has been of interest for both academic and technological reasons. Progress in this area has required a combination of research disciplines ranging from synthetic organic chemistry to solid state physics. The interdisciplinary effort required for success ful research in polydiacetylenes was reflected in the mix of chemists, physicists and materials scientists who attended the Workshop. The emerging potential for commercial applications of polydiacetylenes was also evident in the nearly equal partici pation of academic and industrial/government scientists. The WOrkshop was the first major international meeting to focus solely on polydiacetylenes. It provided a forum in which problems of mutual interest could be discussed by scientists with diverse backgrounds and interests. It also satisfied the need for a review of the science of these materials at a time when this basic understanding is leading to technological applications.

The Fifth International Conference on Laser Spectroscopy or VICOLS, was held at Jasper Park Lodge, in Jasper, Canada, June 29 to July 3, 1981. Following the tradition of the previous conferences in Vail, Megeve, Jackson Lake, and Rottach-Egern, it was hoped that VICOLS would provide an opportunity for act ive scientists to meet in an informal atmosphere for discussions of recent developments and applications in laser spectroscopy. The excellent conference facilities and remote location of Jasper Park Lodge in the heart of the Canadian Rockies, amply fulfilled these expectations. The conference was truly international, with 230 scientists from 19 countries participating. The busy program of invited talks lasted four days, with two evening sessions, one a panel discussion on Rydberg state spectro scopy, the other a lively poster session of approximately 60 post-deadline papers. We wish to thank all of the participants for their outstanding contribu tions and for preparation of their papers, now available to a wider audience. Our thanks go to the members of the International Steering Committee for their suggestions and recommendations. We are especially pleased to have held this conference under the auspices of the International Union of Pure and Applied Physics. VICOLS would not have been possible with out the financial support of the Natural Sciences and Engineering Research Council of Canada, and the Office of Naval Research and Air Force Office of Scientific Research of the United States* of America.

This unique atlas presents the recorded spectrum of CH3OH, the main isotopic species of methanol, in the range 28-1258 cm-1. The spectral plot is accompanied by a list of all currently assigned rotation-torsion-vibration lines in the absorption spectrum of methanol. The list of nearly 35,000 transitions spans all of the known microwave transitions, as well as the region of coincidence with CO2 laser emissions.

NSA is a comprehensive collection of international nuclear science and technology literature for the period 1948 through 1976, pre-dating the prestigious INIS database, which began in 1970. NSA existed as a printed product (Volumes 1-33) initially, created by DOE's predecessor, the U.S. Atomic Energy Commission (AEC). NSA includes citations to scientific and technical reports from the AEC, the U.S. Energy Research and Development Administration and its contractors, plus other agencies and international organizations, universities, and industrial and research organizations. References to books, conference proceedings, papers, patents, dissertations, engineering drawings, and journal articles from worldwide sources are also included. Abstracts and full text are provided if available.

This volume covers the recent advances and research on the modeling and simulation of materials. The primary aim is to take the reader through the mathematical analysis to the theories of electricity and magnetism using multiscale modelling, covering a variety of numerical methods such as finite difference time domain (FDTD), finite element method (FEM) and method of moments. The book also introduces the multiscale Green’s function (GF) method for static and dynamic modelling and simulation results of modern advanced nanomaterials, particularly the two-dimensional (2D) materials. This book will be of interest to researchers and industry professionals working on advanced materials.
