Excerpt from World Cotton Prospects: January 31, 1934 During the 5 weeks ended January 11, 1934 total exports of cotton from India amounted to running bales of approximately 400 pounds, accord ing to data from the Commercial and.financia1 Chronicle. This was bales less than during the corresponding period last season and only bales above the like period in 1931 - 32. During this 5 weeks period Great Britain took bales of Indian cotton compared With and bales respectively in the Similar periods of last season and the season before. The Continent also took larger amounts of Indian than in either of the two previous season. Japan and China (the two countries are reported together) took only bales during the 5 weeks ended January 11 this year compared with and bales l and 2 years earlier. With the larger supplies of Indian and the favorable price of Indian relative to American, exports to Japan and China would no doubt have been above recent previous years except for the Japanese boycott on Indian cotton which has recently been discontinued. It is expected, therefore, that exports of Indian to Japan Will increase considerably during the coming weeks. Excerpt from World Cotton Prospects: January-December 1931; No. 66-75 It is estimated that bales of cotton of 478 pounds net have been ginned in Egypt up to January 1 according to a cable from.p. K; Norris, Cotton 5peoialist of the foreign Agricultural Service at Cairo. This is a decrease of bales or 10 per cent under the bales ginned at the same date last year, and bales or 19 per cent less than were ginned up to January 1 of 1929. Of the total ginnings to January 1, bales were of the Sakellaridis variety. This is bales or 28 per cent less than were ginned at the same date last season and bales or 39 per cent less than were ginned by January 1, 1929. The ginnings to January 1 of all other Varieties is estimated at bales, a decrease of bales or 3 per cent under the quantity ginned at the same date last season and bales or 10 per cent less than were ginned by January 1 of 1929.
