This unique volume provides the only holistic treatment of wind towers, a core aspect of sustainable architecture in hot, arid climates. The authors explain how traditional incarnations of these structures provide significant decreases in energy consumption through their use of renewable wind resources to cool buildings and water storage facilities. Beginning with the underlying scientific principles, the design and operation of wind towers is explained in depth and suggestions for optimization are provided, supported by the authors' findings from recent analytical studies.

Buildings can breathe naturally, without the use of mechanical systems, if you design the spaces properly. This accessible and thorough guide shows you how in more than 260 color diagrams and photographs illustrating case studies and CFD simulations. You can achieve truly natural ventilation, by considering the building's structure, envelope, energy use, and form, as well as giving the occupants thermal comfort and healthy indoor air. By using scientific and architectural visualization tools included here, you can develop ventilation strategies without an engineering background. Handy sections that summarize the science, explain rules of thumb, and detail the latest research in thermal and fluid dynamics will keep your designs sustainable, energy efficient, and up-to-date.

Most of the business sectors consider the Digital Twin concept as the next big thing in the industry. A current state analysis of their digital counterparts helps in the prediction of the future of physical assets. Organizations obtain better insights on their product performance through the implementation of Digital Twins, and the applications of the technology are frequently in sectors such as manufacturing, automobile, retail, health care, smart cities, industrial IoT, etc. This book explores the latest developments and covers the significant challenges, issues, and advances in Digital Twin Technology. It will be an essential resource for anybody involved in related industries, as well as anybody interested in learning more about this nascent technology. This book includes: The future, present, and past of Digital Twin Technology. Digital twin technologies across the Internet of Drones, which developed various perceptive and autonomous capabilities, towards different control strategies such as object detection, navigation, security, collision avoidance, and backup. These approaches help to deal with the expansive growth of big data solutions. The recent digital twin concept in agriculture, which offers the vertical framing by IoT installation development to enhance the problematic food supply situation. It also allows for significant energy savings practices. It is highly required to overcome those challenges in developing advanced imaging methods of disease detection & prediction to achieve more accuracy in large land areas of crops. The welfare of upcoming archetypes such as digitalization in forensic analysis. The ideas of digital twin have arisen to style the corporeal entity and associated facts reachable software and customers over digital platforms. Wind catchers as earth building: Digital Twins vs. green sustainable architecture.

This volume represents the proceedings of the First International Conference on S- tainability in Energy and Buildings, SEB’09, held in the City of Brighton and Hove in the United Kingdom, organised by KES International with the assistance of the World Renewable Energy Congress / Network, and hosted by the University of Brighton. KES International is a knowledge transfer organisation providing high-quality c- ference events and publishing opportunities for researchers. The KES association is a community consisting of several thousand research scientists and engineers who p- ticipate in KES activities. For over a decade KES has been a leader in the area of Knowledge Based and Intelligent information and Engineering Systems. Now KES is starting to make a contribution in the area of Sustainability and Renewable Energy with this first conference specifically on renewable energy and its application to - mestic and other buildings. Sustainability in energy and buildings is a topic of - creasing interest and importance on the world agenda. We therefore hope and intend that this first SEB event may grow and evolve into a conference series. KES International is a member of the World Renewable Energy Congress / N- work which is Chaired by Professor Ali Sayigh. We are grateful to Professor Sayigh for the collaboration and assistance of WREC/N in the organisation of SEB’09. We hope to continue to work with WREC/N in the future on projects of common interest.

This book contains twenty-one original papers and one review paper published by internationally recognized experts in the Atmosphere Special Issue "Recent Advances in Urban Ventilation Assessment and Flow Modelling", years 2017–2019. The Special Issue includes contributions on recent experimental and modelling works, techniques, and developments mainly tailored to the assessment of urban ventilation on flow and pollutant dispersion in cities. The study of ventilation is of critical importance, as it addresses the capacity with which a built urban structure is capable of replacing the polluted air with ambient fresh air. Here, ventilation is recognized as a transport process that improves local microclimate and air quality and closely relates to the term “breathability”. The efficiency with which street canyon ventilation occurs depends on the complex interaction between the atmospheric boundary layer flow and the local urban morphology. The individual contributions to this Issue are summarized and categorized into four broad topics: (1) outdoor ventilation efficiency and application/development of ventilation indices, (2) relationship between indoor and outdoor ventilation, (3) effects of urban morphology and obstacles to ventilation, and (4) ventilation modelling in realistic urban districts. The results and approaches presented and proposed will be of great interest to experimentalists and modelers, and may constitute a starting point for the improvement of numerical simulations of flow and pollutant dispersion in the urban environment, for the development of simulation tools, and for the implementation of mitigation strategies.
