The digital libraries emerging from "information societies" no longer concern only digital technodocumentary devices that are patrimonial, cultural or scientific. Social networks and high-audience merchant sites share the same technologies, heterogeneous digital resources, offer identical user experience (UX) capabilities, and are born within the same communities of designers and engineers. These technology-induced recoveries nourish a usage fantasy that irrigates a transformation movement of innovation where use and user occupy a central place. The evolution of digital libraries does not constitute a disjointed set of singular innovations. They are the result of an innovation movement that gives them a specific dynamic and produces two major effects: empowering users and increasing their number. This book highlights and study that the combination of these effects is likely to have a positive impact not only from an economic point of view but more broadly from a social point of view. - Presents information from the society of information - Contains technologic and cognitive accessibility technologies - Provides information on Interoperability technologies

The very recent emergence of the 'information society' has created new situations that political and economic disciplines have never previously considered. There is a new complexity and many open questions for both individuals and societal macro-structures, which have to maintain, despite this revolution, a satisfactory level of activity and at the same time have to build a new state of stability. With regard to problems identified by many researchers relating to the storage and processing of (semi-)structured digital data, accessibility and sharing, intellectual property, digital documents, information retrieval, information literacy, relevance of information, information profiles of users, etc., the policies envisaged by some for the 'information society' may cause concern and embarrassment from a scientific point of view. This book gathers together 13 contributions from leading information science researchers and presents some of the scientific challenges for these areas, which are also the greatest challenges facing us in the current digital age.

Digital library is commonly seen as a type of information retrieval system which stores and accesses digital content remotely via computer networks. However, the vision of digital libraries is not limited to technology or management, but user experience. This book is an attempt to share the practical experiences of solutions to the operation of digital libraries. To indicate interdisciplinary routes towards successful applications, the chapters in this book explore the implication of digital libraries from the perspectives of design, operation, and promotion. Without common agreement on a broadly accepted model of digital libraries, authors from diverse fields seek to develop theories and empirical investigations that to advance our understanding of digital libraries.

Abstract: "Our project 'Generic Portals' focuses on the possibilities and problems created by the usage of web-technologies to support web-based Digital Library applications. We observe a divergence of services in the sphere of structured resources and scientific libraries' services. Publications in the form of digital resources have introduced new dynamics into the information exchange in the scientific communities. The changes in the publication process are formed by so-called structured resources, whereas the resource can be seen as an encapsulated object. For the exchange of information we have only to know the interface of the structured resource in detail. W3C has published a working draft which includes a language named Web Service Description Language (WSDL) for describing interfaces of services. A Web service interface is a shared connection between functional components of applications. We consider the requirements for the integration of DL-applications via Web services. We present
