Rarely does a primary source become available that provides new and significant information about the history and culture of a famous American Indian tribe. With A Cheyenne Voice, readers now have access to a vast ethnographic and historical trove about the Cheyenne people—much of it previously unavailable. A Cheyenne Voice contains the complete transcribed interviews conducted by anthropologist Margot Liberty with Northern Cheyenne elder John Stands In Timber (1882–1967). Recorded by Liberty in 1956–1959 when she was a schoolteacher on the Northern Cheyenne Indian Reservation in southeastern Montana, the interviews were the basis of the well-known 1967 book Cheyenne Memories. While that volume is a noteworthy edited version of the interviews, this volume presents them word for word, in their entirety, for the first time. Along with memorable candid photographs, it also features a unique set of maps depicting movements by soldiers and warriors at the Battle of the Little Bighorn. Drawn by Stands In Timber himself, they are reproduced here in full color. The diverse topics that Stands In Timber addresses range from traditional stories to historical events, including the battles of Sand Creek, Rosebud, and Wounded Knee. Replete with absorbing, and sometimes even humorous, details about Cheyenne tradition, warfare, ceremony, interpersonal relations, and everyday life, the interviews enliven and enrich our understanding of the Cheyenne people and their distinct history.

The valuable interviews conducted by Nebraska judge Eli S. Ricker with Indian eyewitnesses to the Wounded Knee massacre, the Little Big Horn battle, the Grattan incident, and other events and personages of the Old West are finally made widely available in this long-awaited volume. ø In the first decade of the twentieth century, as the Old West became increasingly distant and romanticized in popular consciousness, Eli S. Ricker (1843?1926) began interviewing those who had experienced it firsthand, hoping to write a multi-volume series about its last days. Among the many individuals he interviewed were American Indians, mostly Sioux, who spoke extensively about a range of subjects, some with the help of an interpreter. For years Ricker traveled across the northern Plains, determinedly gathering information on and off reservations, in winter and in summer. Judge Ricker never wrote his book, but his interviews are priceless sources of information about the Old West that offer more balanced perspectives on events than were accepted at the time. ø Richard E. Jensen brings together all of Ricker?s interviews with American Indians, annotating the conversations and offering an extensive introduction that sets forth important information about Ricker, his research, and the editorial methodology guiding the present volume.

Voice of Grace Collected Works includes Voice of Grace: A Love Journey of Challenge and Triumph to Peace and Joy! and Poetry and Prayers: A Companion to Voice of Grace. Voice of Grace is a personal story of a woman’s unusual health conditions...her upbringing in south Louisiana...her family...marriage...and spiritual awakening to return to the Catholic Church after 30 years. Voice of Grace seeks to explain the Catholic faith to Grace’s family. Her realization of lost time teaching the faith impelled her to include information in the story -- much of it drawn from the Catechism of the Catholic Church and other writings. Persons who have a desire to return to the Catholic faith after being away may fi nd courage to return. Others who have been away from their own faith denomination may be inspired to return to their own faith or investigate Catholicism. Voice of Grace is a memoir detailing the life of Grace Dupuis Hunt, its joys and sorrows, and a happy childhood in south Louisiana interrupted by years of complex illnesses, wellness, marriage to a successful business man, departure from the Catholic Church for 30 years, and then her dramatic return!
