Nimira is a foreign music-hall girl forced to dance for pennies. When wealthy sorcerer Hollin Parry hires her to sing with a piano-playing automaton, Nimira believes it is the start of a new and better life. In Parry's world, however, buried secrets are beginning to stir. Unsettling below-stairs rumors swirl about ghosts, a madwoman roaming the halls, and Parry's involvement with a league of sorcerers who torture fairies for sport. Then Nimira discovers the spirit of a fairy gentleman named Erris is trapped inside the clockwork automaton, waiting for someone to break his curse. The two fall into a love that seems hopeless, and breaking the curse becomes a race against time, as not just their love, but the fate of the entire magical world may be in peril. Look out for the follow-up to this book, Magic Under Stone, out next year!

MISperformance: essays in shifting perspectives is a collection of essays that address a spectrum of cultural, organizational, technological, ecological, political and daily performances by focusing on the causes and consequences of a misfire, misconception, misrecognition, misnaming, misfitting etc. Aspects and impacts of MISperformance that are susceptible to provoking disturbances, distortions, alternations, abortions, if not disasters within diverse spheres of private and social life, including aesthetic and political practices, are investigated in the light of their potentially both regressive, even tragic outcome, and resistant, even transgressive efficacy, as also the absence or abandonment of any reason in or for performance.

Jess has a secret: a mysterious glass flask she finds in an heirloom desk's hidden compartment. Its surface swirls with iridescent colors, like something's inside, something almost like a song, something with a soul. No one else sees anything under the shifting glass, but Jess is convinced there must be some kind of magic in there. And when her twin brothers are born critically ill, Jess begins to believe that the force within the flask just might hold the key to saving her brothers—and her family. In this emotionally rich novel, award-winning author Nicky Singer crafts a world of possibility that is steeped in hope and the power of love. Includes bonus material! - Book Club Discussion Guide

This book constitutes the thoroughly refereed post-conference proceedings of the 40th International Workshop on Graph-Theoretic Concepts in Computer Science, WG 2014, held in Nouan-le-Fuzelier, France, in June 2014. The 32 revised full papers presented were carefully reviewed and selected from 80 submissions. The book also includes two invited papers. The papers cover a wide range of topics in graph theory related to computer science, such as design and analysis of sequential, parallel, randomized, parameterized and distributed graph and network algorithms; structural graph theory with algorithmic or complexity applications; computational complexity of graph and network problems; graph grammars, graph rewriting systems and graph modeling; graph drawing and layouts; computational geometry; random graphs and models of the web and scale-free networks; and support of these concepts by suitable implementations and applications.

The first book-length work of its kind, In Transition: Young Adult Literature and Transgender Representation examines the shift in the young adult book market towards increased representation of transgender characters and authors. Through a comprehensive exploration of historical conventions, genres, character diversity, and ideologies of trans representation, Emily Corbett traces the roots of trans literature from its beginnings in a cisgender-dominated publishing world to the recent rise in trans creators, characters, and implied readers. Corbett describes how trans-ness was initially perceived as an issue to be overcome by cisgender authors and highlights the ways in which the market has changed. Through careful analysis of texts that have until now received little scholarly attention, Corbett weaves together different theoretical approaches and fields of study to provide a map of the textual and cultural histories of this twenty-first-century publishing phenomenon. Focusing on trans authorship, authentic storytelling, and intersectional diversity, this book charts changing public attitudes, the YA book market, and the unique sociocultural moment in which these books are published. In Transition contributes new perspectives on the intersections of adolescence and trans-ness and sheds light on a dynamic subset of YA literature that has yet to receive sustained analysis.
