The imaging potential of the MR experiment continues to evolve. In recent years, an increasing number of fast and ultrafast imaging strategies has been described. In this evolu tion the definition of the terms fast and ultrafast has been blurred. Hence they are frequently used interchangeably. The evolution of these methods has been based on two related, yet separate developments: an increasingly thorough understand ing of the complexities inherent to pulse sequence design and the increasing availability of stronger and faster gradient sys tems. The combination of these two factors has laid the foun dation for vast reductions of MRI data acquisition times. Min utes have been replaced by seconds. Beyond shortening MR examination times and thereby increasing patient throughput, a most significant consequence has been the ability to acquire complex MR image sets within the time confines of a single breath-hold. The constraints placed by the presence of respi ratory motion have thus been effectively eliminated. Ultrafast breath-held data acquisition strategies already represent the backbone of many abdominal, thoracic and even pelvic imaging protocols. The enhanced image quality permits full exploitation of the unsurpassed soft tissue contrast inherent to the MR experiment. Beyond improving the quality of ex isting applications, the implementation of ultrafast imaging techniques has permitted the exploration of new imaging in dications, particularly in the area of perfusion and diffusion as well as ultrafast 3D imaging.

Breast MRI: State of the Art and Future Directions provides a comprehensive overview of the current applications of breast MRI, including abbreviated MRI, as well as presenting technical recommendations, practical implementation and associated challenges in clinical routine. In addition, the book introduces novel MRI techniques, multimodality imaging, and advanced image processing coupled with AI, reviewing their potential for impeding and future clinical implementation. This book is a complete reference on state-of-the-art breast MRI methods suitable for MRI researchers, radiographers and clinicians.Breast cancer is one of the leading causes of death among women with early detection being the key to improved prognosis and survival. Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) of the breast is undisputedly the most sensitive imaging method to detect cancer, with a higher detection rate than mammography, digital breast tomosynthesis, and ultrasound. - Spans the whole spectrum of breast MRI, including basic imaging techniques, indications, interpretation, and the latest cutting-edge techniques - Reviews multiparametric MRI and abbreviated protocols, providing an outlook on the future of this technique - Discusses the predictive and prognostic value of MRI as well as the evolving field of radiomics/genomics and AI

MR is a powerful modality. At its most advanced, it can be used not just to image anatomy and pathology, but to investigate organ function, to probe in vivo chemistry, and even to visualise the brain thinking. However, clinicians, technologists and scientists struggle with the study of the subject. The result is sometimes an obscurity of understanding, or a dilution of scientific truth, resulting in misconceptions. This is why MRI from Picture to Proton has achieved its reputation for practical clarity. MR is introduced as a tool, with coverage starting from the images, equipment and scanning protocols and traced back towards the underlying physics theory. With new content on quantitative MRI, MR safety, multi-band excitation, Dixon imaging, MR elastography and advanced pulse sequences, and with additional supportive materials available on the book's website, this new edition is completely revised and updated to reflect the best use of modern MR technology.

Designed in a small-format for practical reading and point-of-care setting use, this work presents the most up-to-date concepts on breast diseases. The main objective of this book is to propagate current knowledge of the most frequent breast diseases, being a quick reference, evidence-based manual covering the major clinical scenarios in mastology. The essence of the work can be summarized in the following sentence: "access to maximum content in the least amount of time.” The book contains data that will allow readers to understand and treat patients with different complaints and diseases. Each chapter presents a flow chart and a summary of the five major publications on the subject. This is unique in comparison with other books in this medical specialty. Developed by a team of international expert specialists who deal with breast pathologies on a daily basis, the book also includes additional contributions from experienced, renowned professionals in interdisciplinary specialties related to the main area. This book will be of interest to physicians who deal with breast diseases and wish to improve their knowledge through exposure to state-of-the-art data and best practices advice. It is also directed to medical students and residents in training within mastology. (This title was originally published in Portuguese by the Brazilian publisher Atheneu in 2011 and has sold very well and gone into a third edition, published in 2017.
