This research will analyze the changes that took place in the UAE's foreign policiessince the establishment of the UAE federation in the year 1971 till date. The main aim of thisresearch is to demonstrate how the shaping and formulation of the UAE's foreign policieswere mainly depending on the benefits that the UAE will achieve from using such foreignpolicies through its history especially that the UAE have confronted many conflicts andthreats since the day of its establishment especially with Iran.The UAE used through its history many types of foreign policies that includedstraight forward, hedging and soft power. The use of each of these directions of foreignpolicies were always according to the situation and the time interval related to when theywere used and led to the establishment of the UAE as one of the key players in theinternational community and the Middle East region who have the abilities to confront thethreats that may rise and also protect itself through recognized military abilities and strongties with the main international powers.The conclusion of this research indicates that the UAE even being a small countrywhen compared to other countries in the region, but it could establish itself as an importantstate in the shaping and control of the main events that takes place specially in the MiddleEast and that the main foreign policy of the UAE that depends on diplomatic relations,negotiations and dialogue was effective to achieve all the interests of the country.

Led by Dubai and Abu Dhabi, the UAE has become deeply embedded in the contemporary system of international power, politics, and policy-making. Only an independent state since 1971, the seven emirates that constitute the UAE represent not only the most successful Arab federal experiment but also the most durable. However, the 2008 financial crisis and its aftermath underscored the continuing imbalance between Abu Dhabi and Dubai and the five northern emirates. Meanwhile, the post-2011 security crackdown revealed the acute sensitivity of officials in Abu Dhabi to social inequalities and economic disparities across the federation. This book offers a concise and detailed analysis of the United Arab Emirates (UAE) foreign aid as a main instrument in its foreign policy. Exploring the cultural factors that have impacted on the foreign policy behaviour of the UAE and its foreign aid, the author argues that Arabism and Islamic traditions have shaped the country’s foreign policy in general and foreign aid in particular. Examining in depth the motives and purposes of this large aid program through the lens of International Relations theories (mainly Constructivism and Rationalism), the book details the UAE’s foreign policy and aid program since its inception. Drawing on a comprehensive analysis of two major recipients of aid from the UAE – Palestine and Pakistan – the focus moves beyond the UAE to show how cultural factors have impacted on the behaviour of the authorities across the wider Arab Middle East. Middle East politics have been proverbial for their changeability. The 1970s ushered in petro-politics, for instance, but OPEC's international status declined markedly in the following decade. Similarly, the Arab world's ostracism of Egypt in the 1970s following its separate peace with Israel was turned around in the 1980s; the late 1980s also brought PLO acceptance of the State of Israel. Interstate relations were not the only arena to experience significant alterations; state-society relations also underwent dramatic changes, such as the acceleration of privatization in erstwhile socialist regimes.
