In this action-oriented book, Vincent Williams brings a call to personal awareness. The author articulates how cultural traditions confine our choice of direction and ability to take action. He argues that, for many, the pursuit of the American dream is a common yet unfulfilling pathway. He challenges you to find the root cause of that which stifles you and guides you through a process of identifying your inherent gifts; from these strengths flow the richest opportunities to design a life of passion and true fulfillment. This is life's toolbox; a fortune of wisdom from those that have gone before us. It is the perfect gift. Vincent Williams is a keen observer of life. He is like most of us, an ordinary person. But thank goodness he is reflective about the journey. This book is a reminder of truths we have forgotten, a provocative work created to change perspectives that no longer serve us. -Patrice Gaines, best selling author Laughing in the Dark and Moments of Grace You will learn how to: ] Acknowledge deep-seated dreams and passions ] Devise and implement a plan to achieve your goals ] Effectively manage failures, obstacles and unforeseen challenges ] Discover your unique ability

The riveting memoir of Rikki Klieman--an enormously successful defence attorney and television personality--as she discovers the possibilities of love in middle age with Los Angeles' new police commissioner, Bill Bratton. Thirty-five-year-old Rikki was named one of America's top five female trial attorneys by Time magazine for her work in criminal defence, one of the toughest branches of law for a woman to enter. She defended clients ranging from accused drug smugglers to media moguls to well-meaning Christian Scientists Ginger and David Twitchell, whose beliefs were put on trial after the death of their child. She waged a war of nerves with Boston police and the FBI during negotiations for the return of fugitive sixties radical Katherine Ann Power. As Rikki moved from success to success, however, the frenetic lifestyle of a defence attorney began to damage her health and happiness. She suffered from exhaustion, chronic back pain, and two failed marriages, but considered these afflictions to be part of "the price of the prize." After several decades as a practicing attorney, she joined Court TV, where she gained national prominence covering the O.J. Simpson trial and she went on to host Court TV's daily show Both Sides. Now, at midlife, this warrior with a woman's heart has finally achieved, in her loving marriage to LAPD chief Bill Bratton, the balance many seek but few find. Her dramatic story proves that fairy tales can come true and that great love and great success can go hand in hand.

These essays by John Nevin, theologian of Mercersburg Theology, are united by two primary themes: Part 1 documents Nevin’s noteworthy and innovative application of idealist philosophy to Reformed theology in antebellum America. American Christians largely rejected any inherited philosophical discipline or categories, claiming the right to invent moral and religious reality without attention to Christian tradition. The paradoxical result was authoritarian rationalism: religious doctrines imitated scientific reasoning (“common-sense” philosophy) but were imposed by ecclesiastical fiat. In contrast, Nevin summoned his fellow theologians to pay fresh attention to the Idea: the rational unpacking of transcendent truths in being, moral right, and revelation. Part 2 then documents his criticism of the predominant Christian alternatives in the mid-nineteenth century. Such alternatives were deeply flawed, Nevin thought, as they necessitated that supernatural reality be experienced through an external authority demanding assent and obedience—the pope, a body of bishops, an authoritative Bible. But for Nevin, “supernature” is Jesus Christ himself who generates and sustains the reality of which the church speaks. Thus the highest Idea was Jesus Christ, now incarnate in the history and sacramental and liturgical life of the church.
