Troy is situated on the banks of the Hudson River, just ten miles from the state capital of Albany. Well known as the Collar City, it is the home of Uncle Sam and of the largest annual Flag Day parade. It is less well known as being the home of two National Baseball Hall of Famers, Johnny "the Trojan" Evers and Michael "King" Kelly. In its prime, Troy had more than sixty churches, fifteen breweries, and at least a dozen theaters. Although he was a native of Bullock County, Alabama, Wade Hall -- teacher, writer, poet, critic, interviewer, folklorist, and documentarian -- spent most of his fifty-year career in Kentucky. But he was never emotionally far from his home as evidenced by his passion for collecting vintage Alabama postcards. In his lifetime he amassed 10,000, which he then graciously gave to the University of Alabama Libraries and Troy University in a large joint bequest that also included rare books, quilts, folk art, letters and more. These postcards date from the late 1800s to the mid-20th century and offer a fascinating and diverse picture of the state. The meaning of postcards that could be purchased as a travel souvenir is largely forgotten today when cameras are commonplace. But the value of Hall's stunning collection cannot be missed. The some 400 cards featured in Greetings from Alabama are revealing of scenes familiar and rare. From Birmingham's Vulcan to Mobile's Bellingrath Gardens, from Enterprise's boll weevil monument to Huntsville's rockets, from Helen Keller's home to William Rufus King's resting place, the scenes offer captivating glimpses of Alabama history.

Bowling Green in Vintage Postcards is an engaging collection designed to entertain, educate, and enthrall history buffs, residents, and visitors alike with scenes of Bowling Green of yesteryear. When long hunters paused along the banks of the Barren River in the mid-1700s, little did they realize that this beautiful, varied landscape would one day boast a thriving city. Today, the city is hailed as the educational, retail, and commercial hub of South Central Kentucky. Preserved in this photo journal is the area's rich and vibrant past. Showcased are the things unique to this region-the horses, tobacco, strawberries, building stone, Corvettes, and Western Kentucky University. Highlighted are people, places, and events special to the river city-snapshots of Duncan Hines and local clairvoyant Edgar Cayce; rural towns and hamlets such as Smiths Grove, Woodburn, and Alvaton; and court day and the 1907 Prohibition parade.

In 1772, Native Americans granted land in the Tuscarawas Valley to Moravian missionary David Zeisberger, and he established the Christian community of Schoenbrunn Village, which remained until 1777 when members were forced to relocate. Then in late 1804, John Knisely, his family, and other pioneers braved the western frontier and settled on the Tuscarawas River near the Schoenbrunn Village site. On October 23, 1804, John Knisely founded the town of New Philadelphia. He was a great philanthropist, donating land to the city for future public buildings, guaranteeing its selection as the Tuscarawas County Seat. In Schoenbrunn Village, which has been partially excavated and rebuilt as a historic site in New Philadelphia, missionaries lived in harmony with Native Americans, and so it seems fitting that New Philadelphia, through the influence of John Knisely's generosity, has maintained its image as the new "city of brotherly love." Two hundred years later, the city strives to keep Knisely's dream alive with its generous allocation of resources and commitment to those in need.

From the 1890s through the 1920s, the postcard was an extraordinarily popular means of communication, and many of the postcards produced during this "golden age" can today be considered works of art.

As one of the earliest developed areas of the state of Michigan, Berrien County has a rich history that appeals to the locals as well as the tourists who still enjoy the many treasures to be found there.
