El libro Trastornos neurocognitivos en el adulto mayor: evaluación, diagnóstico e intervención neuropsicológica plantea con la mayor cantidad de evidencia científica posible los aportes que se han realizado en la conceptualización, la evaluación, el diagnóstico y la rehabilitación sobre el adulto mayor desde el área de la neuropsicología. El libro consta de cuatro apartados compuestos por 12 capítulos en donde se abordan diferentes temas como los cambios en la dinámica cerebral, en la cognición y el comportamiento durante el envejecimiento, la neuropsicología de las demencias, cuya clara estructura y abundancia de cuadros comparativos facilita su lectura y la labor del clínico a la hora de hacer el diagnóstico, o bien, se ofrece una revisión muy completa de los instrumentos más utilizados en la evaluación neuropsicológica de las personas mayores para hacer el diagnóstico diferencial de la demencia, sin dejar de insistir que la evaluación neuropsicológica va mucho más allá de la aplicación de pruebas y requiere de la valoración cualitativa. This book presents an interdisciplinary approach to the study of affectivity and human learning by bridging the gap between neuroscience, cultural and cognitive psychology. It brings together studies that go beyond the focus on cognitive-intellectual variables involved in learning processes and incorporate the study of the role played by affectivity and emotions in learning not only at educational settings but in all processes of transformation and human development, thus presenting affectivity as a catalyst and mediator of all daily learning processes. Chapters brought together in this contributed volume present both theoretical contributions and results of empirical research from different disciplines, such as neuroscience, cognitive psychology, cultural psychology, educational psychology, developmental psychology and philosophy, and are grouped into five thematic sections. The first part of the book brings together chapters discussing different aspects of the role played by affectivity in learning processes from the perspectives of cultural, educational and developmental psychology. Achieving integral health is a challenge that necessitates a diversified approach from different disciplines to achieve a coordinated impact on people’s health. Food and nutrition form an essentail part of this approach. Neurodegenerative diseases are the most frequent cause of dementia, representing a burden for public health systems (especially in middle and middle-high income countries). Although most research on this issue is concentrated in first-world centers, growing efforts in South America are affording important breakthroughs. This emerging agenda poses new challenges for the region but also new opportunities for the field. This book aims to integrate the community of experts across the globe and the region, and to establish new challenges and developments for future investigation. We present research focused on neurodegenerative research in South America. We introduce studies assessing the interplay among genetic, neural, and behavioral dimensions of these diseases, as well as articles on vulnerability factors, comparisons of findings from various countries, and works promoting multicenter and collaborative networking. More generally, our book covers a broad scope of human-research approaches (behavioral assessment, neuroimaging, electromagnetic techniques, brain connectivity, peripheral measures), animal methodologies (genetics, epigenetics, proteomics, metabolomics, other molecular biology tools), species (all human and non-human animals, sporadic, and genetic versions), and article types (original research, review, and opinion papers). Through this wide-ranging proposal, we hope to introduce a fresh approach to the challenges and opportunities of research on neurodegeneration in South America.
