The book explores gender disparities in South African organisations in terms of gender pay gap and the number of women occupying leadership positions. This is done against the background of prevailing patriarchal culture which is entrenched in many organisations, and which is hard to manage. Nevertheless, Covid-19 responses across different countries has provided the world with the evidence that women are good managers and leaders. This is because women led countries responded better to Covid-19 pandemic as compared to many countries that are led by men. Furthermore, due to lockdowns instituted in many countries, people were forced to work from home. This dispelled the myths that prevented organisations from affording women flexible times to work from home. Hence, the necessity for transformation in organisations.

This edited volume analyzes the experiences learned in practice especially among small holder farmers to eradicate poverty. In other words, it discusses practical solutions which small scale farmers can use to alleviate poverty and reduce inequality. This addresses the issue of inclusive and sustainability of projects leading to the notion of not leaving anyone behind. The book provides insights that can be translated into policy with potential to inform practice. It also has the potential to address the issue of rural urban migration by providing knowledge that is usable by small scale farmers, policy makers and entrepreneurs alike. The volume is written by authors from different countries, Nigeria, Tanzania, and Zimbabwe, indicating the commonality of the problems of poverty and inequality. It contains insights from all these countries assembled together into an amalgam of practices ready to use and implement informed by evidence from the field as most of the chapters are based on empirical data.

Kriel believes that people are the biggest asset in any organization. They should be correctly led and managed within the specific organizational climate in which they find themselves working. Employees should be developed and encouraged to study to broaden their horizons. His life examples served to teach people to follow their dreams, no matter how big or small. This book describes the political, social, and economic connections between gender and the Covid-19 pandemic. The authors offer innovative ideas for recovery that will build a more prosperous, healthy, equitable, and sustainable future for African women and girls, targets identified under Goal 5 (Gender Equality and Women’s Empowerment) of the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals slated to be achieved by 2030. Within this context, authors identify issues related to the protection of women and girls from poverty, hunger, and gender-based violence; improved healthcare and healthcare workforce experiences; girl-child education; financial inclusion; and entrepreneurship opportunities for women in fintech, tourism, and information, communication and technology (ICT). The book concludes with a discussion of economic empowerment for women that focuses on normalising the ‘un-normal’ outcome of the pandemic. The constitutional and legislative framework within the Southern African Development Community provides a positive institutional environment to ensure mainstreaming gender concerns. However, the translation and implementation of the gender perspective is at times lacking. Both agenda setting as an instrument of change management and reorganisation procedures are not used enough in the fields of economy, organisation and health. These three areas are crucial partly due to their interconnectivity and also because of their vital importance to the successful sustainable development of SADC nation.
