This book is concerned with recent advances in fitness landscapes. The concept of fitness landscapes originates from theoretical biology and refers to a framework for analysing and visualizing the relationships between genotypes, phenotypes and fitness. These relationships lay at the centre of attempts to mathematically describe evolutionary processes and evolutionary dynamics. The book addresses recent advances in the understanding of fitness landscapes in evolutionary biology and evolutionary computation. In the volume, experts in the field of fitness landscapes present these findings in an integrated way to make it accessible to a number of audiences: senior undergraduate and graduate students in computer science, theoretical biology, physics, applied mathematics and engineering, but also researcher looking for a reference or/and entry point into using fitness landscapes for analysing algorithms. Also practitioners wanting to employ fitness landscape techniques for evaluating bio- and nature-inspired computing algorithms can find valuable material in the book. For teaching proposes, the book could also be used as a reference handbook.

Fuzzy set theory provides us with a framework which is wider than that of classical set theory. Various mathematical structures, whose features emphasize the effects of ordered structure, can be developed on the theory. Fuzzy topology is one such branch, combining ordered structure with topological structure. This branch of mathematics, emerged from the background — processing fuzziness, and locale theory, proposed from the angle of pure mathematics by the great French mathematician Ehresmann, comprise the two most active aspects of topology on lattice, which affect each other. This book is the first monograph to systematically reflect the up-to-date state of fuzzy topology. It emphasizes the so-called “pointed approach” and the effects of stratification structure appearing in fuzzy sets. The monograph can serve as a reference book for mathematicians, researchers, and graduate students working in this branch of mathematics. After an appropriate rearrangements of the chapters and sections, it can also be used as a text for undergraduates.

This book presents carefully selected contributions devoted to the modern perspective of AI research and innovation. This collection covers several areas of applications and motivates new research directions. The theme across all chapters combines several domains of AI research, Computational Intelligence and Machine Intelligence including an introduction to the recent research and models. Each of the subsequent chapters reveals leading edge research and innovative solution that employ AI techniques with an applied perspective. The problems include classification of spatial images, early smoke detection in outdoor space from video images, emergent segmentation from image analysis, intensity modification in images, multi-agent modeling and analysis of stress. They all are novel pieces of work and demonstrate how AI research contributes to solutions for difficult real world problems that benefit the research community, industry and society.

BIM for Structural Engineering and Architecture Building Information Modeling: Framework for Structural Design outlines one of the most promising new developments in architecture, engineering, and construction (AEC). Building information modeling (BIM) is an information management and analysis technology that is changing the role of computation in the architectural and engineering industries. The innovative process constructs a database assembling all of the objects needed to build a specific structure. Instead of using a computer to produce a series of drawings that together describe the building, BIM creates a single illustration representing the building as a whole. This book highlights the BIM technology and explains how it is redefining the structural analysis and design of building structures. BIM as a Framework Enabler This book introduces a new framework—the structure and architecture synergy framework (SAS framework)—that helps develop and enhance the understanding of the fundamental principles of architectural analysis using BIM tools. Based upon three main components: the structural melody, structural poetry, and structural analysis, along with the BIM tools as the frame enabler, this new framework allows users to explore structural design as an art while also factoring in the principles of engineering. The framework stresses the influence structure can play in form generation and in defining spatial order and composition. By highlighting the interplay between architecture and structure, the book emphasizes the conceptual behaviors of structural systems and their aesthetic implications and enables readers to thoroughly understand the art and science of whole structural system concepts. Presents the use of BIM technology as part of a design process or framework that can lead to a more comprehensive, intelligent, and integrated building design Places special emphasis on the application of BIM technology for exploring the intimate relationship between structural engineering and architectural design Includes a discussion of current and emerging trends in structural engineering practice and the role of the structural engineer in building design using new BIM technologies Building Information Modeling: Framework for Structural Design provides a thorough understanding of architectural structures and introduces a new framework that revolutionizes the way building structures are designed and constructed.

This volume contains the proceedings of the AMS-EMS-SMF Special Session on Recent Advances in Diffeologies and Their Applications, held from July 18–20, 2022, at the Université de Grenoble-Alpes, Grenoble, France. The articles present some developments of the theory of diffeologies applied in a broad range of topics, ranging from algebraic topology and higher homotopy theory to integrable systems and optimization in PDE. The geometric framework proposed by diffeologies is known to be one of the most general approaches to problems arising in several areas of mathematics. It can adapt to many contexts without major technical difficulties and produce examples inaccessible by other means, in particular when studying singularities or geometry in infinite dimension. Thanks to this adaptability, diffeologies appear to have become an interesting and useful language for a growing number of mathematicians working in many different fields. Some articles in the volume also illustrate some recent developments of the theory, which makes it even more deep and useful.
