Excerpt from Timber Resource of Missouri's Northwestern Ozarks, 1972 Similar Resource Bulletins reporting statistical highlights and detailed tables on the timber resource of the other Survey Units in Missouri (see cover) are available or are in preparation. These will provide the basis for a comprehensive analysis of the timber resource of the entire State which will be published as a separate report. A higher degree of accuracy of survey information was obtained during the 1972 survey than otherwise would have been feasible because of intensified field sampling made possible by extra fund ing provided the North Central Station by the State Legislature through the Missouri Department of Conservation. The Department also conducted a canvass of primary wood-using plants in the State, which was used to help in estimating the quantity of timber products harvested in Missouri. Personnel from the National Forests in Missouri installed sample plots on national forest lands, which were used to inventory those lands. The usda Agricultural Stabilization and Conservation Service and the State Historical Society of Missouri furnished aerial photos used in the survey.
