Forward to the P-R-S SeriesThe manuscript is divided into six books. In the first book, I speculate about the first 1000 years of the P-R-S family 1050 BCE to 50 BCE. The next book in this series will begin with Julius Caesar (50 BCE) and cover the Middle Ages and Renaissance in Europe (to about 1700 CE). In that book we will continue to follow the P-R-S family as it expands and diversifies. By 1700 CE, historical records begin to be relevant. The third book in this series will begin with some issues about 1600 CE in Europe and cover the period to 1800 CE and lay the foundation to the transition of the P-R-S family to North America. The fourth book begins the historically well-documented period of my branch of the P-R-S family in North America (1700-1775). The story continues in the fifth book (1775-1800), which focuses on the American War of Independence. The family history is concluded in the sixth book that covers the period 1800 to 1950 and includes the American War between the States and some fairly recent U.S. history. Overall, the process covers 1050 BCE to 1950 CE....three thousand years.Along the way, I have summarized history and discussed technology that I believe provide essential context for the story. In doing so, I have reinterpreted some historical facts, which I believe have been misconstrued in conventional analyses. History is usually presented as disconnected events; but I have attempted to provide a continuum of history because one event in history does flow into the next as each generation of the P-R-S family passes through the scene.

This is the 6th and final book of this series. I covers the period 1800-1950 including the War of 1812, Mexican War, War to prevent Southern Independence and touches briefly on WWII as they affect the line of the P-R-S family through which I descend. This period is well documented; and in some cases, highly distorted in the self-image of the United States because it is clear that events of this period are still actively associated with current political interests. I try to focus on primary documents rather than accepted history books and I find that there is a substantial distortion of various facts (often by omission) in what is widely believed. I have written other books focusing on the Old South and the institution of slavery and relations between slaves and slave holders, which go into some of these topics in more detail. In particular, I focus on the economic system of slavery and why it was becoming unprofitable in the mid-1800s and (in my opinion) would have spontaneously been abandoned in the late-1800s in favor of a system of free labor. The end result would have been essentially the same share-cropper system that appeared after 1865; but importantly without the racial friction caused by the War (which I think was totally avoidable).

Book 3 covers a complicated and exciting period of time where religious and political passions shaped national ambitions.Spain and Portugal followed by France, Britain and the Dutch fight in Europe, on the Seas and in the New World. While Spain, Portugal and France treated the New World as merely a place to exploit resources for European consumption. In Britain itself, the pendulum swung from Catholic to non-Catholic rule creating a Civil War and a flow of British settlers especially from Ireland and Scotland to colonies in the New World. Catholic persecution of non-Catholics in France resulted in a colonization movement from France and Germany via Britain into 13 British colonies on the east coast of North America.Because of the flow of ocean and atmospheric currents, the trip from Britain carried early settlers Barbados and from Barbados to New England, New York, Philadelphia, Jamestown and Charles Town. This was the path taken by the early P-R-S families. who were often associated with seaborne trade and transportation. My male relatives map out sea lanes from Plymouth to Bergen along the west Scottish coast; Plymouth to Copenhagen and Antwerp along the English Channel; Plymouth to Caruana to the Azores and the Canaries and Puerto Rico. The sailors left their DNA but not their names on isolated islands, where "they never met a girl they did not like."

A comprehensive anthology of Chinese poetry from the 12th century B.C. to the present. "This magnificent collection has the effect of a complete library rather than of an anthology of poetry.... A lyric quality comes through into our own language... Every page is alive with striking and wonderful things, immediately accessible." -- Publishers Weekly "Sunflower Splendor is the largest and, on the whole, best anthology of translated Chinese poems to have appeared in a Western language." -- The New York Times Book Review "This remarkably fine anthology should remain standard for a long time." -- Library Journal ..". excellent translations by divers hands. Open to any page and listen to the still, sad music... " -- Washington Post Bookworld

I first became interested in genealogy in 1998 when I accidentally discovered that it might be possible to trace my Parris family back at least to Ireland in the 1700s. But, this research soon caused me to look at a much bigger topic. It was immediately clear that the spelling of the family name was fluid and that many family branches could be traced back to what I have come to call the "P-R-S family." Thus, my interest expanded to examine the P-R-S family over thousands of years of history, while I examined my individual branch over the few hundred years where genealogical records are available. Thus, my study became a mixture of history and genealogy. Although the trail of personal references to my Parris ancestors appears to end in Ireland or Barbados in the 1600s, the surname ties my forefathers to the Parisii tribe that is readily traceable back to the time of Julius Caesar (50 BCE). Where did the Parisii come from? Why were there recognized branches of the Parisii tribe on the Seine River (now Paris, France) and on the Humber River in Britain? Rather than work you backward through the chain of deductions and hypotheses that I have evolved concerning the P-R-S family history and the specific line that became my traceable ancestors; I would prefer to simply tell you the story, as I understand it, from the beginning. You should take the part I describe up to my traceable ancestors as a hypothesis, which I encourage historians, geneticists and archeologists to test. It may be wrong; then again, it may be right. And, if it is right, it is not only an interesting family story; it sheds light on the foundations and evolution of western civilization since 1050 BCE. In particular, I believe that the P-R-S family was always at the edge of western civilization. For reasons that will be explained in the story, my branch of the P-R-S tribe was compelled to move on the front wave of the tide of history and spun-off sub-families as it went. Hence, the name of this book: "Three Thousand Years on the Frontier." The manuscript is divided into six books. In the first book, I speculate about the first 1000 years of the P-R-S family 1050 BCE to 50 BCE.
