Excerpt from Thirty-Third Annual Report and Balance-Sheet of the Provident Life and Trust Company of Philadelphia, 1898 The relations of the two departments of the business are fixed by the provisions of the charter. The entire surplus in the Insurance Department accumulates for the benefit of the Policy holders. The only advantage, direct or indirect, which the stockholders of this company can at any time have from the union of the two features of their business results from the fact that the management of Trusts, from which they derive their profits, is done for them without charge. The accounts of the Insurance and Trust Departments are kept entirely distinct and separate. About the Publisher Forgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books. Excerpt from Fifty Years: The Provident Life and Trust Company of Philadelphia, 1865-1915 The task which has been laid upon me, and which I have felt it an honor to undertake, has been to prepare a simple and untechnical narrative of the history of the Company which, for those of its friends who were familiar with its earlier days, might freshen their own recollection, and for those whose acquaintance with it has been more recent, might link the past with the pres ent in a clearer understanding of how worthily the Company has fulfilled the expectation of its founders. Excerpt from Thirty-Fourth Annual Report of the Board of Directors of City Trusts of the City of Philadelphia: For the Year 1903 These reports are generally satisfactory and they evidence the fact that the education received at the Col lege contributes to make better citizens of those received as wards Of Mr. Girard's bounty. The demand for stenographers and typewriters is still in excess of the ability of the College to graduate young men trained for this work. It is hoped that there may be a like demand for the graduates who have creditably passed the additional course of two years' training in the Mechanical School.
