It first made its appearance in 1871, and now, in the autumn of 1876, has reached its Third Edition. During this brief period over five thousand copies have been distributed among the members of the Profession. A new edition is again called for, in order to correct and improve the work before again committing it to the press; and to this end we have labored to replace all doubtful by new and more cer tain materials, and to so blend and incorporate the additions as not to materially increase its size. The asterisks rep resent characteristic symptoms, or key-notes. Those in italics represent similar symptoms, but of a less prominent character; while those left without a sign, correspond to a third degree of distinction. The remedies placed in brackets at the end of the given symptoms, signify that they are indicated by similar symptoms. It will be apparent from an examination of the work, that a good deal of labor has been bestowed upon it, in order to bring it to its present state. But the favor with which it has been received by the Profession, leads me to hope that in this, my last attempt, the labor has not been spent in vain.
