Oliver Woodard (d.1741) lived in James City, Isle of Wight County, Virginia. Descendants lived in Virginia, North Carolina, South Carolina, Georgia, Florida, Mississippi, Texas and elsewhere.

Andrew Strain Sr. (d.1826) was born prior to 1755 and died in Haywood County, North Carolina. Descendants and relatives lived in North Carolina, Tennessee, South Carolina, Georgia, Texas and elsewhere. Includes constitution, officers, and history of the reunions of the Strain Family Association (earlier called the Strain Reunion).

Edward Wood, Sr. was born in England about 1628 and came to Norfolk, Virginia in about 1650. His descendants eventually moved south to Pasquotank County, North Carolina. The Woods inter-married with the Davis, Smithson, Frew, Harris and other families in the area. Descendants live in North Carolina and Virginia. The author descends from the Wood family through Edward Wood, Sr.'s third son, John Wood (b.1735) and John's eldest son, Joseph Wood (1754-1822). The bulk of the information concerns this line of descent.

Josiah Askew (1740s-1818) was probably a direct descendant in the fourth generation of John Askew (d.1683), who immigrated from England to Isle of Wight County, Virginia and married Bridget Smith. Josiah's father, John Askew (d.1751), married Margaret Boone and moved from Isle of Wight County, Virginia to the area of North Carolina that is now Edgecombe and Bertie Counties. Descendants and relatives lived in North Carolina, Georgia, Alabama, Oklahoma, Texas and elsewhere.
