Orb-weaving spiders spin the wheel-shaped webs often seen on dewy mornings in meadows and hedges, or on the walls and the eaves of buildings. This manual provides descriptions, illustrations, and taxonomic keys for the identification of the 94 species of these spiders represented in Canada and neighbouring regions.

Beetles are the largest and most studied order of insects, some of which are beneficial as biological control agents. Alphabetically lists all species and subspecies of beetles known to Canada and Alaska under their respective genus-group names. This monograph includes all species in the families Anthribidae, Apionidae, Attelabidae, Brentidae, Ithyceridae, Nemonychidae, Platypodidae, and Rhynchitidae that occur or may occur in Canada and Alaska. The work includes a key to all the families of Curculionoidea in North America, as well as keys to all genera and species of the families included. Each genus is described. Species entries include a list of synonyms, a description, data on distribution, information on host plants and on other aspects of biology, and diagnostic features. Distribution maps and illustrations of taxonomic characters for a number of species are included, as well as habitus illustrations of representative species.

New taxonomic, distribution and habitat data are presented for Canadian species in various families of Coleoptera. Distributional records are presented mostly from New Brunswick but also Quebec, Nova Scotia and Prince Edward Island. For New Brunswick, 320 new provincial records, 6 new records for Canada, and 22 new records of adventive species are provided. For Quebec, 1 new provincial record is provided; for Nova Scotia, 11 new provincial records are provided; and for Prince Edward Island, 2 new provincial records are provided. Maps of all new distribution records and significant new biological information are provided for all species. This volume on Maritime provinces beetle biodiversity contributes new and important baseline data, and significantly updates the known Coleoptera faunas of New Brunswick, Quebec, Nova Scotia, Prince Edward Island, and Canada.
