It is his protection from the shower of often impertinent interrogations which a subject of so personal a nature almost inevitably calls forth. But it has its drawbacks. It enables the equally anonymous critic to question the authenticity of the writer's statements, and to hint a doubt whether his work is genuine. It is here that the publisher may be of assistance.
