In the tradition of Georgette Heyer and Jane Austen, THE UPPITY EARL by Marilyn Clay is a Clean, Sweet, and Proper Regency Romance, set in London. Miss Tessa Darby was born in England but grew up in American. She has now returned to England to escape her cruel stepfather and to try to reform the child labor laws of her birth country. Harrison Belmour, the fifth Earl of Penwyck is the very sort of influential gentleman Tessa wishes to impress with her plea. But a more uppity and self-righteous gentleman she has never met! Harrison Belmour is having the devil of a time controlling the deplorable behavior of his mother’s house guest, the auburn-haired, spectacle-making young lady from America. The stubborn chit refuses to take direction and the last thing the aristocratic Belmour family needs is another scandal! Still, the earl has to admit there is something refreshingly tantalizing about a beautiful woman who is both principled and intelligent. But, he refuses to believe he is falling in love with the willful young lady, even if he continues to reflect on what a perfect countess she would make! Note: The Uppity Earl was previously released in print as Miss Darby's Debut by Zebra Books, and is also in ebook as The Hyde Park Spectacle. “Another unusual plot from the talented pen of Marilyn Clay! The Bonnie, Bonnie Bone This fourth installment of the Clarice Campion/Miss Letty series finds Clarice, her husband Otis, and their permanent guest, former Silent Screen star, Miss Letitia Lorraine, acting as exchange caretakers/B&B hosts in a Scottish castle which sits on an island in the tidal Firth of Lorn. Otis, drilling through the castle wall in search of a leak, discovers two skeletons. One dates from the 1970s; the other from the 1930s. The older skeleton bears a gruesome relic: a third leg growing from its abdomen. A vestigial twin. Did the aristocratic family try to hide this deformity? How many people were privy to this deception? Surely not Earl Randall; they like him. The ninety-year-old Dowager Countess, not so much. Clarice and Miss Letty dig into the archives to try to identify the skeleton. They are assisted by their children, twins Kitty and Pat, at Edinburgh University for a Semester Abroad; the kids’ Scottish friend, Mac; six B&B guests from Virginia; and B&B employee Heather, clued in by her news-gathering Gran. Their explorations lead them to a tunnel from the castle, under the firth, to another island. Originally an escape hatch in times of siege, they discover a hidden room fitted up as a dormitory or hospital ward. And what about that gap in the earldom for over a hundred years? The village of Killnish, so picture postcard perfect—as though trying too hard to be Scottish—puzzles them, since it looks as if it grew up overnight. And why are there no graves in the churchyard before 1940? Finally Clarice confronts a killer in the tunnel, but is saved by her B&Bers (she’s not dumb enough to enter the tunnel alone!). All must scramble for their lives as the tunnel collapses and water from the firth rushes in.

Please note: This is a companion version & not the original book. Sample Book Insights: #1 The first half of the twentieth century was marked by the treatment of blacks who dared exercise their civil rights, which were reserved for whites only. In the North, the racial divide was de facto and maintained at key levels of society, while in the South, it was de jure and enforced by law. #2 Malcolm Little was the seventh of Earl’s children, and the first to be born in Detroit. He was the son of a pioneering, Midwestern family. He would become a major figure in twentieth-century American history. #3 Earl’s family had experienced the terror of the Ku Klux Klan, and he welcomed his new son as another mouth to feed. #4 Earl’s father, Reverend Little, was a preacher who was very independent and outspoken. He was often in conflict with his in-laws, who were more subservient to whites. He eventually left Georgia and moved to Philadelphia, where he met and was influenced by the teachings of Marcus Garvey.
