A report of the fisheries, aquatic habitat and instream flow data collected to assist the Alaska Power Authority with evaluation of the feasibility of the Susitna Hydroelectric Project in Alaska.

Planning for and licensing of a major hydroelectric project requires many hydrologic and hydraulic studies. This paper gives a brief description and history of the Susitna Hydroelectric Project; describes the basin, river, and project operation; and gives on overview of hydrologic studies. Attention is given to hydrologic studies for project economics and project design and to hydrologic and hydraulic studies for environmental impact analysis.

Presentation of data from extensive studies concerned with the distribution and abundance of fish populations and their aquatic habitat in portions of the Susitna River, Alaska, which would impacted by the proposed Susitna Hydroelectric Project.

In order to acquire adequate information needed to determine the impacts of the proposed Susitna Hydroelectric Project and to design proper mitigative strategies, a two-phase data collection program has been developed. This manual addresses Phase I (July 1, 1980-December 31, 1981) procedures to be conducted within the Susitna River Valley. Technical procedures are provided for these studies: Adult Anadromous Fisheries Studies, Resident and Juvenile Anadromous Fisheries Studies, and Aquatic Habitat and Instream Flow Studies.
