In this day of the revival of "Spiritism," when so many, through the loss of loved ones in the "Great World War," are longing to communicate with the dead, and are resorting to forbidden means to that end; a day in which science is trying to discover whether there is another world than this, and whether men live after death, and if so can they communicate with the living, it seems timely that a book should be written to show what the Holy Scriptures have revealed of the "World of Spirits." The Bible has much to say about the "Spirit World," and if we will carefully search its pages we shall know all there is to be known in this life of the "World to Come." For if men will not listen to Moses and the Prophets, they will not be persuaded though one rose or came back from the dead. Luke 16:31. - Foreword.

In this book, Clarence Larkin explains the various elements of the spiritual world of Christianity; including demons; the underworld; resurrection; and man's relationship to the spirits. Unafraid to tackle topics often ignored or relegated to the barest mention by other theologians, in The Spirit World Clarence Larkin delves deeply into the topics such as hell, Satan and demonic manifestations. His accessible style is made further comprehensible by the myriad drawings and charts, which visually portray concepts which first appeared in the Bible. For decades in his role as a preacher and theologian, Larkin immersed himself in the depths of Biblical lore. His studies ranged from explaining obscure or cryptic books of the Bible, to clarifying the manifestations of spirits good and evil, and how these corporeal beings interact with one another and with humans. The machinations behind phenomena such as resurrection, fallen angels and the journey of the soul to the afterlife are topics which Larkin explains.

His accessible style is made further comprehensible by the myriad drawings and charts, which visually portray concepts which first appeared in the Bible. For decades in his role as a preacher and theologian, Larkin immersed himself in the depths of Biblical lore. The studies he undertook ranged from explaining the obscurer or more cryptic books of the Bible, to clarifying the manifestations of spirits good and evil, and how these corporeal beings interact with one another and with humans. The machinations behind phenomena such as resurrection, fallen angels and the journey of the soul to the afterlife are topics which Larkin explains insightfully. This edition of The Spirit World contains all of the original illustrations and charts which Larkin used to better clarify his points. Perfect for Bible students or enthusiasts of Christian lore, Larkin's books remain authoritative, relevant and useful to this day. Readers new to Larkin's works should be mindful that some of his larger charts contain text in very small print. These can however be read and fully discerned with the help of a magnifying glass.

This historic book may have numerous typos and missing text. Purchasers can usually download a free scanned copy of the original book (without typos) from the publisher. Not indexed. Not illustrated. 1894 edition. Excerpt: ...His disciples and the people He preached to? Positively nothing! He mentioned it constantly, but He never gave any description of its joys or pleasures, of what they were to consist, or with whom partaken. The only allusion to the happiness of Heaven in the Scriptures is in the text: "Eye hath not seen, nor ear heard, nor have entered into the heart of Man the things which God hath prepared for them who love Him." If the disciples were left without a more particular knowledge of the glories of Heaven, why should we degenerate mortals expect to enjoy a further revelation? And again, you may hold converse with a dozen spirits and each one may come from a different sphere. "In my Father's house are many mansions, if it were not so, I would have told you." The spirits which come from the lower spheres know no more than ourselves, with the exception of the blessed truth that there is no death. They smile at our innate fear of death, for though with them to ascend to a higher sphere entails a sleep like death, having once passed through it they think no more of it than we do of lying down in our beds after a long day's work. Of course, it is not likely that I should have had so many opportunities of conversing with spirits without putting questions to them about their lives in the other world, and what they do there, etc. I have sat for hours sometimes talking with them through trancemediumship on all sorts of subjects, but as I did not take shorthand notes _at the time, it is as difficult to remember all that we said to each other as it would be to recall the conversations I have had with my fellowmortals. As with all friendly converse, however, if we cannot remember the exact words used, the effect of the...

The Reverend Clarence Larkin was one of the most widely influential pop theologians of the early twentieth century: his works are the source of many of the "prophecies" and "truths" end-times Christians hold to even today.
