Why should we strive to be important? Does it make our lives go better if we are especially significant? The Significance Impulse argues that the common impulse to seek exceptionally high levels of significance is misguided. Although many people strive to be extraordinarily significant, ultimately cosmic importance is out of reach for us. And though we do matter somewhat, it can be a liberating relief to take a more irreverent stance towards our lives and embrace our unimportance. This book is a testament to being ordinary.

In this volume of essays, Howard Wettstein explores the foundations of religious commitment. His orientation is broadly naturalistic, but not in the mode of reductionism or eliminativism. This collection explores questions of broad religious interest, but does so through a focus on the author's religious tradition, Judaism. Among the issues explored are the nature and role of awe, ritual, doctrine, religious experience; the distinction between belief and faith; problems of evil and suffering with special attention to the Book of Job and to the Akedah, the biblical story of the binding of Isaac; the virtue of forgiveness. One of the book's highlights is its literary (as opposed to philosophical) approach to theology that at the same time makes room for philosophical exploration of religion. Another is Wettstein's rejection of the usual picture that sees religious life as sitting atop a distinctive metaphysical foundation, one that stands in need of epistemological justification.

Robert Engle received the Nobel Prize for Economics in 2003 for his work in time series econometrics. This book contains 16 original research contributions by some the leading academic researchers in the fields of time series econometrics, forecasting, volatility modelling, financial econometrics and urban economics, along with historical perspectives related to field of time series econometrics more generally. Engle's Nobel Prize citation focuses on his path-breaking work on autoregressive conditional heteroskedasticity (ARCH) and the profound effect that this work has had on the field of financial econometrics. Several of the chapters focus on conditional heteroskedasticity, and develop the ideas of Engle's Nobel Prize winning work. Engle's work has had its most profound effect on the modelling of financial variables and several of the chapters use newly developed time series methods to study the behavior of financial variables. Each of the 16 chapters may be read in isolation, but they all importantly build on and relate to the seminal work by Nobel Laureate Robert F. Engle.

This book is the proceedings of the 4th International Colloquium on Interdisciplinary Islamic Studies (ICIIS), which was held in conjunction with the 1st International Conference on Education, Science, Technology, Indonesian, and Islamic Studies (ICESTIIS) in Jambi, Indonesia, on 20-21 October 2021, using blended platforms, in person and online. The Graduate School of UIN Syarif Hidayatullah Jakarta and UIN Sulthan Thaha Saifuddin, Jambi jointly organized the conference. This conference brought together academic researchers, business professionals, and graduate students to share their experiences and research findings on a wide variety of topics related to interdisciplinary Islamic studies. The proceedings are comprised of 52 high-quality papers chosen from more than 250 submissions. Islam and medicine, Islamic education, Islamic studies, psychology, the Qur'an and Hadith, and science and technology are the six issues covered in the papers. This publication is made possible by the committed steering and organizing committees who oversaw and organized the conference, as well as the reviewers for their academic contributions and commitment to assessing papers.
