Excerpt from The Secret of Happiness or Salvation Through Growth Since then I have published many books, but I regard them all (with the doubtful exception of one or two volumes of yerse) as by-products of my central effort to construct an adequate theory of things. For, though the direct re sults of that effort had been elaborate failures, the effort itself had not been wasted. It had helped me to evolve an unformulated creed, which, besides throwing light on the path of my own life, provided me with a base of operations from which to attempt the solution of some of the large problems that revolve, like satellites, round the largest of all. For example, when I had served as a School Inspector for more than thirty years, it suddenly dawned upon me that a man's theory of education ought to be governed by his theory of life; and straightway, guided by my own theory of life, I began to think and write about education. In my published books I have made free use of my two nu published systems of thought, having not only embodied in the former some of the ideas which I had elaborated in the latter, but having also treated the two derelict structures as quarries from which I could take at will the materials that I needed for my less ambitious ventures. Excerpt from Christ's Secret of Happiness Christ's secret of happiness is character. Each quality or attribute of character has its own peculiar blessedness. To interpret this truth as it is affirmed by Jesus Christ in the Beatitudes is the object of this little volume. Or, through a holy spirit with which we have been endowed. In Pauline use, Holy Spirit sometimes means the Spirit of God, some times the spiritual nature in man, which Paul habitually connects with the inspiration of God acting upon man. Happiness. It's what we all long for, what all human beings seek in our jobs, our relationships, our activities. We try so hard to be happy, and all too often we end up empty and unsatisfied. Why? Because, says Billy Graham in this classic work, we are looking for happiness in all the wrong places. We haven't learned the secret Jesus taught in the Beatitudes – that true, lasting happiness simply isn't to be found by seeking it directly. Happiness is a by-product, a bonus that comes when we seek what is really important. And the things that will bring us the satisfaction we long for are not necessarily what the world considers meaningful. Jesus did not have to have an outward stimulus to make Him happy, Billy Graham points out. "He had learned a secret that allowed Him to live above the circumstances of life and fear of the future. He moved with calmness, certainty, and serenity through the most trying circumstances – even death! What was His secret? He gave it to us in the Beautitudes." Presented with Billy Graham's characteristic vigor and simplicity in this landmark book, it is a secret that can transform your life.

Excerpt from The Christian's Secret of a Happy Life I have committed my book to the Lord, and have asked Him to counteract all in it that is wrong, and to let only that which is true find entrance into any heart. It is sent out in tender sympathy and yearn ing love for all the struggling, weary ones in the Church of Christ, iand its message goes right from my heart to theirs. I have given the best I have, and could do no more. May the blessed Holy Spirit use it to teach some of my readers the true secret of a happy life!
