Descriptions of the lives of some great psychics show that they share no single obvious common factor like sex, intellectual brilliance, asceticism, or spiritual devotion. This raises the problem of whether there are psychological concomitants of the psychic personality. This essay, chapter 3 from Psychic Exploration, discusses the psychic personality. The full volume of Psychic Exploration can be purchased as an ebook or paperback version from all major online retailers and at cosimobooks.com.

"The ego rises from the civilization of the psyche just as a leader rises from the masses of the people: appointed, chosen, or taking control according to an inner politics first existing within the greater inner mind." Jane Roberts, Psychic PoliticsPsychic Politics is Jane Roberts's search for the rules that govern our inner life-the links between daily, subjective experience and the greater Reality that nourishes all of our existence. This is not only her most challenging book, but a very personal investigation in which the sources of dream and myth, and the creative wellsprings of sex and spirituality, appear in their full and breathtaking relationship to daily life. And, here for the first time, Roberts introduces her theories of "counterparts, " the "library, " and the "codicils, " concepts that are key to understanding her entire body of work.

Two of America's most experienced and respected psychic teachers present their system of the subtle energy of interpersonal relationships in a book that will appeal to anyone wishing to understand and improve their relationships within their families, partnerships, workplaces, and wider communities This useful guide from two of America’s preeminent psychics is unique in its focus on individual psychology and interpersonal relationships. It begins with simple meditations during which practitioners learn how to recognize their own psychic energy—and also determine if that energy is constrained. Psychic Psychology shows how to free energy through such tools as grounding, clearing psychic enmeshment, and finding the space from which to respond most openly, resourcefully, and generously to life. An entire chapter is devoted to exploring the specific energies men and women have based on their biological differences and helping them to deal with their own energy and that of the other sex. Friedlander and Hemsher present the everyday usefulness of clairvoyant skills within a big picture where they explain that we create our reality, but do not control it; and that the personality—like the soul—is eternal and always growing. The final section describes how psychic skills can be applied in real-world contexts, which are often ambiguous and contradictory. The book explores common issues such as dealing with selfdoubt without jumping to unwarranted, blind confidence and how to communicate effectively, with clear boundaries.

Author Nancy du Tertre, “the Skeptical PsychicTM,” takes you on a journey to find the answer to these questions and more in Psychic Intuition. She became psychic in mid-life after years of intensive study and training, and is now a believer that everyone has the potential to tap into their intuition and understand the world at a deeper level. Psychic Intuition bridges the gap between skeptics who can analyze but don’t experience psychic phenomena, and believers who have the experiences but lack the ability to analyze. This book explains, for the first time, how psychic ability works in the brain.

Essentially clinical in its approach, Psychic Retreats discusses the problem of patients who are 'stuck' and with whom it is difficult to make meaningful contact. John Steiner, an experienced psychoanalyst, uses new developments in Kleinian theory to explain how this happens. He examines the way object relationships and defences can be organized into complex structures which lead to a personality and an analysis becoming rigid and stuck, with little opportunity for development or change. These systems of defences are pathological organisations of the personality: John Steiner describes them as 'psychic retreats', into which the patient can withdraw to avoid contact both with the analyst and with reality. To provide a background to these original and controversial concepts, the author builds on more established ideas such as Klein's distinction between the paranoid-schizoid and depressive positions, and briefly reviews previous work on pathological organizations of the personality. He illustrates his discussion with detailed clinical material, with examples of the way psychic retreats operate to provide a respite from both paranoid-schizoid and depressive anxieties. He looks at the way such organizations function as a defence against unbearable guilt and describes the mechanism by which fragmentation of the personality can be reversed so the lost parts of the self can be regained and reintegrated in to the personality. Psychic Retreats is written with the practising psychoanalysts and psychoanalytic psychotherapists in mind. The emphasis is therefore clinical throughout the book, which concludes with a chapter on the technical problems which arise in the treatment of such severely ill patients.
