Ex-newspaper editor Jason Heppenstall, worn down by the constant drumbeat of dire news in the world, decides to set out on a journey in search of some answers. With not much more than some walking boots, a notebook and a wooden staff, he sets off from his old home in Copenhagen with a vague idea to "head north". It isn't long before a series of bizarre coincidences leads him to believe that his journey is being guided towards an ancient lake in Sweden where the Norse god Odin was once worshipped. Along the way he falls foul of the authorities, endures the wettest weather in living memory and meets a peculiar man of the forest who gives him a special gift. He discovers a modern day Sweden caught between a desire to do good in the world and one struggling to come to terms with the refugees from war-torn Syria and beyond. The writers of the two books in his pack become his two travel companions: one - Marcus Aurelius - is a Roman emperor and Stoic philosopher, the other - Bill Plotkin - is a modern-day American soul-quester, and the two of them together act as inner guides on this most unusual journey. A mixture of travel story, meditation, psychedelic adventure and spiritual quest The Path to Odin's Lake ponders the deeper meaning of being alive in a chaotic world and - ultimately - offers a vision of hope.

Set in the adventurous and epic world of Vikings, Odin's Saga tells the story of a legendary hero and his brave quest to create a nation. The Viking homeland of Heimdal is attacked and almost conquered. Odin, their first King and founder, tells the old King Halvtan, in a dream, that in two generations they will be attacked by hordes of tribesmen. Torleif becomes king when Halvtan dies. To rouse his people, Torleif tells them Odin's Saga. The reader, too, experiences the inspiring story: Odin, the 14 year old survivor of a Tsunami, wanders inland and finds a group of people in need of his help. Odin kills his robbers, avoids enemies, then rescues and marries princess Varna. Varna has his son. Odin frees a whole village of women and children who make him King of their nation. Travelling west, a few good men join them, but many women are without a man. Their Council decides that Odin must take concubines in order to have children for their future nation. As they travel over mountains, seas, and vast flatlands, will Odin and his people be able to reach their Promised Land of Heimdal? Genealogical research has never been more accessible than in this age of digitized information. Learning about one’s ancestors bestows a sense of who we are and our place in the world. Finding Odin was born from the author’s curiosity and search for wisdom as she explored for Scandinavian ancestors. Surprisingly, she found Odin (surmised to be a mortal sixtieth great-grandfather) in her genealogical quest. Finding Odin describes many family connections discovered in twelfth- and thirteenth-century manuscripts, Old Norse sagas, and the work of contemporary researchers reaching back to the first century of the common era and up to the present. We inherit gifts from our ancestors that we often take for granted. Each of us contains within us this inheritance of soul. We are links between the ages, including past and present expectations, sacred memories, and future promises. Finding Odin explores those links.
