Widely considered to be Abu Hamid al-Ghazali's last book, this summary of his Sufi philosophy charts the pitfalls and obstacles to be overcome in order to enter the kingdom of heaven. Dictating his words to a group of elect students, Ghazali acknowledges his own nearness to death and instructs seekers of eternal life to resist hindrances such as fear and impairments such as conceit in order to find salvation in the essentials of God.

From pre-theological material on the scriptural end of the spectrum, to the more practical material at the other, John Renard broadens our concepts of what counts as "Islamic theology," situating Islamic theological literature within the context of the emerging sub-discipline of Relational/Comparative Theology. Divided into five parts, students and scholars will find this collection to be an indispensible tool.

The present book aims to take on this challenge by looking at the major problems from these various aspects, as just mentioned. Obviously, one short book can hardly address all these problems and suggest solutions without certain simplifications and potentially controversial assertions. Nevertheless, it can hope to present a systematic analysis and suggested prognosis based on a coherent philosophy. As indicated above, nothing is more needed in our times, and second to spiritual weakening, the greatest problem of all facing the Islamic World (and indeed the whole world) is lack of understanding of the true natures and essences of things. This book examines ‘our times’ from an Islamic philosophical worldview, looking at the problems facing the Islamic World in the near past, present and future respectively in three mutually complementary parts. At the end of each part, it suggests holistic and easily applied remedies to the problems it examines. In other words (and for those who enjoy sonorous German and Greek philosophical terms) it examines the Zeitgeist from the Weltanschauung of Islam and suggests panaceas. Prince Ghazi bin Muhammad has written a number of books and guides for thinking people, and this small but potent work before you sums up many of his most keen and cogent insights and conclusions; for that reason, this may be his most impactful and motivational work to date.

International Islamic University Malaysia (IIUM) is pleased to bring out Journey to Islamicisation of Human Knowledge: A Festschrift in Honour of Mohd. Kamal Hassan. The publication of this festschrift – first of its kind by IIUM Press – marks a tribute to the late Emeritus Professor Tan Sri Dr Mohd. Kamal Hassan (1942-2023) and a recognition of his many contributions to the university. He served IIUM and its community – both formally and informally – in various capacities including being its third Rector. His attachment to IIUM spanned a long period from its inception in 1983 to the end of his active life. I hope this festschrift will help readers appreciate Kamal Hassan’s contributions and will encourage more scholarly work on his legacy. It will increase their interest in his ideas as well as in the mission and philosophy of IIUM. I congratulate the editors of and the contributors to this book for their inspired efforts to prepare its content, and IIUM Press for publishing this significant work.

This study of the sanctuary aims to give the reader an overall view of the entire sanctuary, including the earthly and the heavenly sanctuaries, and reaching its climax in the temple eternal, the earthly model as constructed by Moses, being a type or illustration of both the others. It also aims to make plain that the sanctuary symbolizes not only the redemptive work of Christ, but also the Christian experience of each of His followers, and of the church as a whole.

Historically, the book of Exodus treats of the deliverance of Israel from Egypt; but viewed doctrinally, it deals with redemption. Just as the first book of the Bible teaches that God elects unto salvation, so the second instructs us how God saves, namely, by redemption. Redemption, then, is the dominant subject of Exodus. Following this, we are shown what we are redeemed for-worship, and this characterizes Leviticus, where we learn of the holy requirements of God and the gracious provisions He has made to meet these. In Numbers we have the walk and warfare of the wilderness, where we have a typical representation of our experiences as we pass through this scene of sin and trial-our repeated and excuseless failures, and God's long-sufferance and faithfulness.
