Dozens of influential leaders have heard the pleas of mothers and children in developing countries. Raising their voices to inspire a movement to increase healthy pregnancies and lower death rates, Melinda Gates, Kay Warren, Bill Frist, Kimberly Williams Paisley, Michael W. Smith and more speak out about why people of faith must get involved in The Mother and Child Project: Raising Our Voices for Health and Hope. Almost 287,000 women die each year because of pregnancy and birth complications. Many orphans are left behind in the wake of this tragedy, and without a mother, many of those children die as well. If only enough people knew. We have the resources to prevent this crisis, but we must take action. Fortunately, Hope Through Healing Hands, a nonprofit organization promoting awareness for healthy mothers and children worldwide, is already spreading the word. Not only can we save lives, reduce abortions, and decrease death rates, but also we can help build healthier, thriving families and bring stability and sustainability to families, communities and nations. The question is, will you join them?

A discussion guide specifically written as a companion piece to The Mother and Child Project that will prompt helpful conversations for book clubs, small groups, and others interested in the topic of women and child health throughout the world and how the church community should get involved. The discussion guide is divided into four sessions-- one to complement each section of the book, The Mother and Child Project. Each session is divided into two parts: “At Home”—several suggested essays to read from the book prior to the gathering to discuss—and “In Your Small Group”—several discussion questions, often supplemented by a pertinent quote from the book, plus a follow-up activity to become personally involved. 2020 Foreword INDIES Book of the Year Award Finalists - Ecology and Environment Jesus' command is clear: we are called to feed all of God's children. But is that possible? Twenty-five years ago, 23.3 percent of the world's population lived in hunger. Today, that number has dropped to 12.9 percent—giving rise to the renewed hope that what once seemed unthinkable is now within reach. The challenges are great, but the fight to eliminate malnutrition and hunger is one we can win. The End of Hunger brings together activists, politicians, scientists, pastors, theologians, and artists on this urgent topic. Here is a comprehensive picture of the current situation—the latest facts and figures are presented alongside compelling stories, both from those engaged in the fight against hunger and from the hungry themselves. Here too are clear steps for action by individuals, families, churches, and communities. This book is designed to inform and inspire you to get involved in the gospel work of eradicating global malnutrition and feeding the hungry. It is Jesus' command—and together, with God's help, we can do it. Contributors include Chef Rick Bayless David Beasley The Rev. AIDS is possibly the greatest catastrophe facing the African continent. This is the stark message delivered by this latest issue of the UNICEF Progress report. It is estimated 860,000 children in sub-Saharan Africa have lost their teachers to AIDS in 1999, yet education is the cornerstone in preventing the spread of the disease. These and other statistics are set out in this annual report, detailing the progress of improving the quality of life for children and young people throughout the world. Some positive developments can be noted, such as the near-eradication of Polio, but much is still needed to be done.
