Excerpt from The Maine Register, and State Reference Book, 1852 The Maine Register and State Reference Book, which is now offered to the public, has been prepared with the belief that such a work is wanted in the com munity, and that if faithfully executed, it would meet with success. From the nature of the work, it cannot be expected to be entirely free from imperfections. Whatever ih accuracies occur, however, have not resulted from a want of vigilance, and diligent inquiry, but from the impossibility of obtaining correct information, relative to all the persons and matters comprised. The date of the commission of each Civil Officer, is a new feature in works of this character, and one which it is believed will be found useful. The Civil Officers of Cumberland County were not revised until after that department had gone to press. Valuable corrections in relation to them will be found at the close of the work.
