Excerpt from Prentice-Hall Tax Service for 1919 This allowance is not based upon the difference between the actual war cost of such facilities and what they would have cost at pre-war prices. Obviously the taxpayer is not entitled to recover or extinguish through amortization more than the difference between the war cost of such property and what he can sell the property for after the war, or if he continues to need and use it in his business, what it would have cost him after the war. As the rule is expressed in Article 183 of the Regulations: The total amount to be extinguished by amortization, in general, is the excess of the unextinguished or unrecovered cost of the property over its maximum value (either for sale or for use as part of the plant or equipment of a going business) under stable post war. Excerpt from The School Lunch With the acceptance of the school lunch as a teaching area and the tremendous growth of industrial and school feeding programs in the last decade, there has existed a need to bring together in one book basic information to serve as a standard guide and reference. This book gives a comprehensive background of all major phases of lunchroom Operation, and, as such, is a basic text for college students majoring in institutional management and for those planning to direct a school lunchroom. The roles of the administrator, director, manager, teacher, and cook are defined, and the importance of each to the success ful Operation of the lunch program is stressed. Although all the material is of general interest, the administrator will find the chapter on layout and policies particularly useful. The central director and the lunchroom manager will note the convenience of data on record keeping, pur chasing, personnel, and menu planning. Practical suggestions are given to the teacher for the integration of nutrition in the school lunch pro gram; food production sections will appeal especially to the cook. This modern retelling of the classic Yiddish folktale and Caldecott Honor book It Could Always Be Worse asks: What do you do when the school lunchroom gets too crowded? The students at Parley Elementary have a hard time using the space in their lunchroom efficiently. When they get tired of shoving and arguing, they write a letter to their principal asking for help. She responds by moving all the science projects into the lunchroom. Now it's even more crowded! Through a series of letters and increasingly hilarious scenarios, the lunchroom gets more and MORE chaotic. When the principal finally announces that the lunchroom is once again only to be used for lunch, the students are overjoyed with the result.
