Ethorenn wakes up with a heavy headache. He remembers the orch attack and Emerelds hurt shoulder, but nothing how they escape. He noticed a person in a black cloak sitting by a campfire some steps away. Ethorenn, Neväida and the person in the black cloak enter the city of Reedell in search for healing remedies for Emerelds wound. On the streets they encounter a street kid named Kipp, which joins them on their travel. After Emereld are healed they continued with their journey. In the distance a huge erappal tree are emerging, and by its roots the elven city, Spring-haven. Nervous, Ethorenn is brought before the elven council that will decide his fate.

Eight months have passed, and Ethorenn has been training with the elves, but he is falling behind his classmates. Struggling because of the physical differences between him and the elves. Ethorenn is fed up with the treatment he receives from the elves, which constantly bully him and bring him down. He decides to leave alongside Kipp and Neväida, and sets his sights on one of the largest human cities in Nevanion, South Emr. Ethorenn has heard rumors about a tournament that brings together competitors from all corners of the world, and he hopes to finally prove to both himself, and the elves that he is not worthless.

In the land of Nevanion, young Ethorenn has lived his whole life in a secluded village, feeling that he doesn't belong there. His father wants him to become the next village chief, but all Ethorenn wants is to explore the world. One day, his world is turned upside down when orchs attack his village, burning it to the ground, and kidnap him. While escaping the orchs he frees a captured dragon and he soon finds himself accompanied by this young dragon, called Neväida. With nothing left for him in the village, Ethorenn sets out on an adventure not knowing it will have great consequences not only for himself, but for all of Nevanion.

Ethorenns world is turned upside down when his village gets burned to the ground by a group of orchs. He decides on traveling to the elves at Spring-Haven. On his journey he gets accompanied by Emereld, Quloth and Neväida a family of dragons. Their daughter becomes especially fond of Ethorenn. On their journey they encounter a young princess captured by a fearsome dragon. Hearing her desperate screams Ethorenn decides to free her from the dragon and help her get home to her hometown, Merrieden. With the promise of a big reward for saving her, Ethorenn follows her to Merrieden where the princess true intentions is revealed.
