"About the Author and Artist: I have taught art in the public schools of Casper, Wyoming for six years and received my Masters of Education through Lesley University while teaching. However, I am originally from Buffalo, Wyoming. Crazy Woman Creek runs through my family's ranch at the foot of the Big Horn Mountains. I grew up only three miles from the mouth of the canyon. I have always been fascinated by the beauty of the surrounding landscape. Crazy Woman Canyon is one of my favorite places for inspiration as an artist. Each time I travel through the canyon, I find peace and tranquility. God's paint brush touches nature in a dazzling way, no two trips through the canyon are ever the same. My grandfather invited the Indians to camp at our family ranch, called Klondike, when they were traveling from the Black Hills to Ten Sleep. Klondike was one of the customary ten "sleeps" between the Black Hills of South Dakota and the town of Ten Sleep in the Big Horn Mountains. There is an identifiable landmark which can be seen far in the distance from the Big Horn. A large span of prominent pink, pointed, jagged rocks quilted together are north of Crazy Woman Canyon. These characterized pink rocks are known as Richter's Ridge. Louise Richter was a family friend who ranched in the Big Horns above Klondike. I felt a need to share the legend because of my roots and the stories I have heard as a child. The legend has been passed down by oral tradition for over 150 years. I am proud to share this story with those wondering about the Legend of Crazy Woman." -- back cover.
