Unlike some other reproductions of classic texts (1) We have not used OCR(Optical Character Recognition), as this leads to bad quality books with introduced typos. (2) In books where there are images such as portraits, maps, sketches etc We have endeavoured to keep the quality of these images, so they represent accurately the original artefact. The maps which accompany the Memoir, are reduced from Rushton's Bengal Gazetteer of 1842, and are more correct than any thing else of the kind heretofore published in this country. All the interior of Tavoy and a part of Mergui, as presented in that work, were taken from an original manuscript map of Mr. Mason's.
