"Walter Brasch is the most informed, opinionated, witty, and delightful commentator on the media scene today." -Aspen Media Review Like two of his role models, Thomas Jefferson and John F. Kennedy, Bill Clinton was one of the nation's most dynamic and effective presidents, and like his mentors, he was one of the most vilified. He left office with one of the highest approval ratings for his personal moral conduct. He would affect Americans like few people ever could, and no one could be neutral.

"Who can resist the call of the saxophone? This expressive instrument is at the very heart of 20th-century music. Celebrating the Saxophone is a colorful and affectionate look at its richly diverse history. Paul Lindemeyer follows its progress from the 1840s Paris workshop of Adolphe Sax, through years of obscurity in band music, to its eventual fame in 1920s America, to the election of a sax-playing President." "The saxophone is best known as the symbol - and musical standard-bearer - of jazz. Celebrating the Saxophone illustrates its role in the music from early times - when Sidney Bechet became the pioneer jazz saxman - to the present, when artists like Branford Marsalis have won unparalleled public acceptance. The saxophone's development as the creative jazz voice is traced in profiles of its great innovators - among them Coleman Hawkins, Lester Young, Charlie Parker, Sonny Rollins, and John Coltrane. Yet jazz is only part of the story. Classical saxophonists have been gaining long-overdue acceptance. And the horn has played many roles in popular music - from the ragtime virtuosity of Rudy Wiedoeft, to the big band era, to the ever-popular David Sanborn."--BOOK JACKET.Title Summary field provided by Blackwell North America, Inc. Joy Harjo's play Wings of Night Sky, Wings of Morning Light is the centerpiece of this collection that includes essays and interviews concerning the roots and the reaches of contemporary Native Theater. Harjo blends storytelling, music, movement, and poetic language in Wings of Night Sky, Wings of Morning Light—a healing ceremony that chronicles the challenges young protagonist Redbird faces on her path to healing and self-determination. This text is accompanied by interviews with Native theater artists Rolland Meinholtz and Randy Reinholz, as well as an interview with Harjo, conducted by Page. The interviews highlight the lives and contributions of Meinholtz, a theater artist and educator who served as the drama instructor at the Institute of American Indian Arts from 1964–70 and a close mentor and friend to Harjo; and Reinholz, producing artistic director of Native Voices at the Autry, the nation's only Equity theater company dedicated exclusively to the development and production of new plays by Native American, First Nations, and Alaska Native playwrights. The new interview with Harjo focuses on her experiences working in theater. Essays on Harjo's work are provided by Mary Kathryn Nagle—an enrolled citizen of the Cherokee nation, playwright, and attorney who shares her insights on the legal and historical frameworks through which we can better understand the significance of Harjo's play; and Priscilla Page—writer, performer, and educator (of Wiyot heritage), who looks at indigenous feminism, jazz, and performance as influences on Harjo's theatrical work.

This volume was first published by Inter-Disciplinary Press in 2013. The chapters within this volume expose a need to discuss and challenge both the practise of evil and the judgement of acts and persons as being ‘evil.’ The reader will find a diverse and intriguing selection of representative texts and themes, including: discussions of the monstrous, the consideration of evil objects, a reading of the wicked language of lying and ‘bullshitting’, and investigations of madness. A range of literature from medieval to contemporary texts, including poetry, novels, television and cinema, are considered and analysed through cultural and historical contexts in the hopes to extend the discussion that intrigues many of us: what is evil?
