Excerpt from The Jones Family HE form in which this book was originally written has never satisfied me. Courteous men do not write outspoken letters of condemna tion and counsel to their acquaintances, and although my men and women were men and women of straw, I owed them polite treatment, to say the least. SO I have entirely rewritten the book, transforming the letters into sketches of personal types, and thus doing away with the seeming discourtesy and impertinence of the previous form of direct address. I believe that all that was valuable in the book has been re tained, and that the articles of which it is com posed will be read with more profit and pleasure in consequence of the change. Excerpt from Genealogy of the Jones Family: First and Only Book Ever Written of the Descendants of Benajmin Jones, Who Immigrated From South Wales More Than 250 Years Ago It was the practice of Benjamin Jones to ride on horseback to his new settlement. It was deemed in those times very dangerous for a man to emigrate five or ten miles into the forest. If he exceeded that dis tance, his funeral sermon surely would be preached. He died in 1754, 92 years of age. About the Publisher Forgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books. Excerpt from Genealogy of the Cloyd, Basye and Tapp Families in America: With Brief Sketches Referring to the Families of Ingels, Jones, Marshall and Smith The collection of the information in this book was the re sult of circumstances. Like the majority of individuals the compiler had no thought of or care for his ancestry until one day in 1891, he received a letter from Dr. Thos. Cloyd Craig of Eas ton, Kans., making inquiries about the family name, Dr. Craig having seen the writer's name in some Medical Journal. In a very short time a similar letter was received from Dr. W. H. Long of Haddonfield, N. J. Following the correspondence with these two gentlemen an interest in family history was aroused and the correspondence gradually extended to other parties and to other branches of the family.
