This work explores a new sector: the jazz accordion. The accordion was just considered as a popular music instrument for many years and only recently it has got a -cultured- instrument, thanks to the institution in the Conservatory. In fact, thanks to its own expressive power and versatility, this instrument is played in every musical context: jazz, popular and classical music. The book is composed by 9 chapter and 240 pages and it's divided into three parts. The first one deals with the basic technique, by some articulation exercises on scales, arpeggios, finger independence, the thumb passage. The second section is about several topics in the functional harmony using the seventh chords in all theirs positions, the practice of II-V-I cadence, voicings, modes, peculiar scales. The last section consists of creative application to the learnt technical and theoretical knowledge, making the right performance and improvisation on standard jazz and blues.

This work wants to explore a relatively new field, that is, that of the jazz accordion. The level of reference is for those who already have sufficient mastery of the instrument, as well as basic knowledge of major and minor scales, tonality, intervals, chords, in order to start a course in this specific field, so one can organize oneÕs studies. The work is basically articulated in three parts. The first is dedicated to the basic technique, through exercises on musical scales, arpeggios, finger independence, thumb passage. The second, instead, deals with various arguments of functional harmony through the use of the seventh chords with respective inversions, the practice of II-V-I cadences, voicings, modes, and scales used in jazz. The last part consists in the creative application of the technical-theoretical baggage acquired through the construction of appropriate performances and improvisations of standard jazz and blues.

The method is aimed at both beginners and professionals, and is aimed at acquiring well-structured and organized training for levels of difficulty in order to provide adequate technical / theoretical skills. This collection of exercises is a first approach to jazz language; in fact, the text progressively addresses technically advanced topics, enriched by advice and useful lessons, without neglecting the part devoted to functional harmony, with the harmonization of the notes, the expression of the acronyms even in the horizontality of the arpeggios, the various chord types, the major and minor II-V-I progressions, the approach notes, the variations of a melody, the most used rhythm patterns, and finally a selection of traditional and jazz tracks.

This comprehensive method of music instruction enables the beginner to progress to an advanced stage of technical skill.
