"Exult, let them exult, the hosts of heaven, exult, let Angel ministers of God exult, let the trumpet of salvation sound aloud our mighty King's triumph! Be glad, let earth be glad, as glory floods her, ablaze with light from her eternal King, let al corners of the earth be glad, knowing an end to gloom and darkness."" "The Easter Proclamation," or "Exsultet," is the triumphant song of praise that proclaims "Christ is Risen!" during the Easter Vigil in the Roman Rite. Acclaimed iconographer Charles Rohrbacher has illustrated a one-of-a-kind ritual book: "The Easter Proclamation" ("Exsultet"). This CD presents the vivid, scripturally grounded images of his unique work for projection in the sanctuary and use in prayer. The icons of "The Easter Proclamation" draw on the vivid and poetic texts of the ancient hymn. They depict Holy Mother Church, Moses leading the Israelites through the Red Sea, the expulsion of Adam and Eve from the Garden, Christ the Morning Star and other images from the great story of salvation as proclaimed in this sacred moment. Charles Rohrbacher reverently depicts each of these scenes using classical iconography techniques. Each unique picture draws on the long tradition of Christian icon writing.

The Easter Proclamation, or Exsultet, is the triumphant hymn of praise that proclaims "Christ is Risen!" during the Easter Vigil in the Roman Rite. This sacramental moment, which makes present the promise and joy of the great feast of Easter, can be further enhanced by a unique new ritual book: The Easter Proclamation. This lavishly illuminated volume offers the chant found in the Revised Edition of the Roman Missal augmented with magnificent illustrations. Artist Charles Rohrbacher, deacon of the Diocese of Juneau, has written icons that depict the text of the Exsultet. A decorative cover with gold stamping is ideally suited to be carried in procession as well as to be enthroned following the Easter Vigil.

"In the Cathedral Church of Mary of the Assumption in Tbilisi, Georgia, in Eastern Europe, "the Word of Life" is proclaimed in the Liturgy, and also told through one hundred and thirty icons of scenes from the Bible, elegantly arranged along the Cathedral's side walls. For the faithful, these icons uncover the thread of love that can draw them to enter, through prayer, into contemplation of the image of the invisible God." "Thirty of these icons, which tell the story of the life of Jesus, are reproduced in this book together with the relevant biblical texts and a commentary written especially for the English language edition by Francis J. Moloney, SDB. Carefully chosen extracts from early Church Fathers shed further light on each of the events portrayed in the icons."--BOOK JACKET.

This is a print on demand book and is therefore non- returnable. "In Christ there is no East or West," claims a familiar hymn. But the truth is that American Christians know little about Russian Orthodox Christians and harbor many misconceptions about them. In this revealing book Anthony Ugolnik shows how the thousand-year-old Russian Orthodox tradition actively shapes the life of contemporary Russian Christians, and he points out how Russian Orthodoxy can inform and enrich American Christianity. Ugolnik speaks from a unique perspective: of Russian descent, he is an American Christian who has a strong and genuine personal bond with Russian Christians. Ugolnik begins his discussion by exploring the alienation between Russians and Americans - a cultural and religious alienation that is still very strong today, despite changing rhetoric and glasnost. Americans tend to picture Russian Christians as "cowed and ragged masses"; on the contrary, says Ugolnik, they are "a stalwart, strong community." American Christians also tend to be suspicious about the role of icons in Russian Orthodox worship. But Ugolnik points out that icons are not idols; rather, they are religious objects that "image forth" the majesty of God. This powerful sense of the holy that pervades Russian Orthodoxy could reinvigorate American Christianity. Indeed, the Russian Orthodox have much to offer American Christians, according to Ugolnik. They place a much greater emphasis on community in their life and worship -- an emphasis that could help transform the individualistic faith of many American Christians. Similarly, the Orthodox emphasis on historical and spiritual continuity -- in contrast to the imagery of restoration and revival in Reformation Christianity -- could strengthen the worship and witness of American Christians. And the Orthodox sense of the beautiful -- born of a complex aesthetics that undergirds Russian faith and culture -- could enrich the foundation as well as the expression of American Christianity. In the end, American and Russian Christians share the common dilemma of how to relate to the secular world around them, and the Russian Orthodox emphasis on dialogue and engagement could vitalize the way American Christians live out their faith. In this multifaceted book Ugolnik weaves personal experiences with richly developed explorations of Russian and American belief and incisive observations that draw on the literature, philosophy, theology, and history of both cultures. With both passion and compassion Ugolnik urges Russian and American Christians to look to "the illuminating icon of our incarnate God" for guidance: "Let that icon draw us deep into the mystery of a shared life in the Spirit."
