On December the 31, 1776, the Virginia Legislature passed an act establishing Kentucky County, which included the territory now known as the State of Kentucky. In May, 1780, Kentucky was divided into three (3) counties, to-wit: Jefferson, Fayette and Lincoln; these three counties cornered at Frankfort.

This work is an extensive compilation of the history of Franklin County, Kentucky, from its formation in 1794 to 1912. The first four chapters of this book cover the events of the county prior to 1800. Namely, these include: settlement of lands, Indian incursions, establishment and organization of government, and other incidents. Each following chapter relates the history of one specific decade in chronological order up to 1912. A representative cross-section of pertinent information encompasses: Franklin County muster rolls from the War of 1812 and Civil War (both Federal and Confederate); members of local, state and federal government; census and tax records; famous firsts of the county (e.g., first hospital, first school, etc.); and many more sections which feature the many individuals integral to county history. An accurate synopsis of this book would describe it as a comprehensive study of the people and events of Franklin County, Kentucky, and essential for those interested in researching it.
