This might well be called an immense region. Its mean length from east to west was 2,500'miles, and its mean breadth from north to south 830. Its line of boundary extended, according to Darby, to miles, of which were sea-coast; and its area comprehended square miles, exceeding by a small fraction one-twentieth part of the land surface of the earth.
