Excerpt from The Historical Collections of the Topsfield Historical Society, 1910, Vol. 15 The town of Georgetown, at this time, was heavily in terested in the manufacture of boots and shoes, and as the railroad was to supply a means whereby the raw material and the finished product could be transported quickly, a large number of prominent citizens were interested in the enterprise, and it is largely due to subscribers in George town, that the railroad was finally completed. Some of the early meetings, prior to the incorporation of. The rail road company, were held at Georgetown, and one of the first meetings after the incorporation was also held there, on September 17, 1846. Many of the annual meetings of the railroad were also held in Tenney's Hall in that town. About the Publisher Forgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books. Later came industrial development in the manufacture of boots and shoes, and cotton and woolen goods, and with it the meoessity for railroads. Excerpt from Western Reserve Historical Society, 1888, Vol. 2: Tracts 37-72 This volume includes Tracts thirty-seven to seventy two inclusive of this society. This mode of publication was accidental, and the early Tracts are very scarce. At first they were simply reprints from newspapers and the society was much indebted in early days to the cleve land herald. The cleveland plain dealer, and especially to the cleveland leader, for reprinting from newspaper columns. In this volume a variety of type, style and paper is presented, more consonant with convenience than taste. Excerpt from American Colonial Tracts Monthly, Vol. 1 The Compiler of the following Volume having been led by circumstances into an examination somewhat extensive, of the sources of our history, experienced much difficulty in procuring the Pamphlets and smaller Tracts that relate to the Origin, Settlement and Progress of the American Colonies. Of the vast number of publications of this description that were made during the two centuries and a half succeeding the discovery of America, a few only can be found in this country, and these are almost entirely confined to libraries connected with our public institutions: many of them are of great value as authentic historical records, and all are interesting to those who take pleasure in tracing step by step the progress of the Colonies, in population, wealth, and power, within the comparatively short period that intervened between the landing of the first white man upon the Continent, and the establishment of a free and independent Government by the People of the United States of America. These considerations suggested the plan of the Collection now commenced. Of the thirteen Tracts contained in the present volume, Nos. 2 and 10 have not heretofore been printed, and Nos. 8 and 9 now appear for the first time in a connected form: the others, as will be seen by referring to the title pages which are copied at large, are republications.
