It accompanies and references the same specimen numbers as Field notes Vol. 1 (1-2980), Vol. 2 (2981-5960), and Vol. 3 (5961-8960). Location of collecting was chiefly in southern Florida in the vicinity of Miami, Fort Lauderdale, and the Everglades. Specimens were collected on New York Botanical Garden expeditions in 1901 (with G.V. Nash), 1903, 1904 (with P. Wilson), 1906 (with J.J. Carter), 1909 (with J.J. Carter), 1909 (with J.J. Carter), 1911 (with H. de Vries), 1912 (with H. de Vries), 1913, 1915, 1916, 1917, and 1918. Correspondence includes two letters from Alexander W. Evans, Yale University Osborn Botanical Laboratory, Feb. 26, 1916 and Feb. 28, 1916; a letter from C.G. Lloyd, Lloyd Library, Cincinnati, Ohio, Nov. 7, 1916; and a letter from A.S. Hitchcock, United States Dept. of Agriculture, Bureau of Plant Industry, Mar. 21, 1912. Also included is two pages of Sullivant Moss Society exchange list of Hepaticae found in United States and Canada, compiled by Miss Caroline Coventry Haynes (undated, possibly 1912).
