"Deacon Thomas Hanchett, the ancestor of all the American Family, was born in England, probably not earlier than 1620. When he emigrated to this country is not known, although if, as is supposed, he was the brother of John Hanchett, of Boston, in the Massachusetts Bay Colony, it is probable that he came here with the latter, who is first reported in this country in 1634 ... Deacon Thomas Hanchett died in Suffield, Ct., 11 June 1686 ..."--Page [1]. Thomas and his wife Deliverance had a son John born 1 September 1649 in Wethersfield, Connecticut. Deliverance, daughter of George Langton, died 10 June 1718 in Suffield, Connecticut. Descendants and relatives lived in Wyoming, Kansas, Connecticut, Nebraska, New York, Indiana, Oregon, California, Indiana and elsewhere.

This is the story of a patriot of both the French and Indian War and the Revolutionary War. Oliver participated in that historic march to Quebec through the Maine wilderness in 1775. Oliver fought bravely but the military plan was ill conceived and Oliver along with many of his fellow soldiers was taken prisoner. Their leader, Colonel Benedict Arnold, was wounded in the foot and spent most of the battle in a makeshift hospital. Oliver spent nine moths in captivity trying to keep his unit from starving. Part of the time he was in chains as punishment for leading an attempted escape.
