William Bailey became a resident of Newport, Rhode Island soon after its settlement. He married Grace Parsons and they had six children. Tradition holds that William was a weaver of silk ribbon. He died before July, 1670. Descendants listed lived in Rhode Island, Ohio, Connecticut, and elsewhere.

This work contains all of the articles on Rhode Island families that had been published in "The New England Historical and Genealogical Register" since 1846. Except for articles relating to the immigrant origins of Rhode Island families, which have appeared elsewhere, this has many of the best genealogical articles of the last 140 years, many by leading genealogists of the 19th and 20th centuries.
