"Help me!" With these simple words is triggered an awe-inspiring, jaw-dropping jaunt through the multiverses that comprise the cosmos of Morpheus, Scanner Prime to Her Puissant and Sublime Majesty, Queen Eveteria of Korynthia in Nova Europa. Faced with the inevitable consequences of his prescient visions of doom and collapse, not only for his own country, but for all of the civilized world, Morpheus must attempt the impossible: to somehow rescue the greater whole and restore stability to the cosmos by finding and saving a single prisoner hidden in an impenetrable cell somewhere on one of the infinity of alternate earths in the six known circles of the Otherworlds. Accompanied by his faithful wherret, Scooter, and ultimately by a band of loyal cutthroats and adventurers, Morpheus prepares to embark on a quest that will whisk him from world to world.

OUTER SPACE IS NOT A SAFE SPACE. It is the year 2869 Æx., and the sun is setting on humanity’s golden age. The once glorious Convergency has fallen into the hands of a corrupt elite, and a lone corporation has seized limitless power over the innocent citizens of the galaxy. But when a noble marshal, a lowly temple harlot and a band of unlikely allies find themselves caught in the middle of an insidious conspiracy, it seems that tyranny may have met its match. Part adventure, part political thriller, The Aetherverse artfully blends pop culture with politics and just a hint of Barbarella, telling the story of a democracy fallen and a tragic history dangerously repeated.

How would Earth look if the very atoms around us were suffused with magical aether? How would our lives be different if this aether was discovered last year, or last century, or last millennia? How might the people who lived with this magic explore their gender identities? These are the questions we posed to the 17 authors who contributed to Aether Beyond the Binary. Their inventive answers comprise this must-not-miss collection about magical realms, adventures and mysteries, new chances and well-earned endings, and characters as gender-diverse as the worlds they inhabit.

The third novel in the acclaimed Sons of Destiny series. Eight brothers, born in four sets of twins, two years apart to the day—they fulfill the curse of eight prophecy. To avoid tempting destiny, the brothers are exiled to Nightfall Island, where women are forbidden. But when the third-born brother is taken by a powerful and beautiful mage, he wonders if she is the Prophesied Disaster, his foretold wife-to-be. Kidnapped and taken captive by slavers, Dominor is sold to a lovely mage, who promises freedom. But Lady Serina has plans for him—to re-enact a mating ritual, to help reverse a Tantric spell cast centuries ago. Agreeing to help, Dominor doesn’t suspect the secret she holds—because there is more to this magical mating than she has revealed. Once the ritual is complete, he will be returned to Nightfall. But when that secret finally shatters, baring the truth behind the misunderstandings now separating them, Dominor is determined to retake possession of the woman who is his Destiny.

The Ethereal Aether is a historical narrative of one of the great experiments in modern physical science. The fame of the 1887 Michelson-Morley aether-drift test on the relative motion of the earth and the luminiferous aether derives largely from the role it is popularly supposed to have played in the origins, and later in the justification, of Albert Einstein’s first theory of relativity; its importance is its own. As a case history of the intermittent performance of an experiment in physical optics from 1880 to 1930 and of the men whose work it was, this study describes chronologically the conception, experimental design, first trials, repetitions, influence on physical theory, and eventual climax of the optical experiment. Michelson, Morley, and their colleague Miller were the prime actors in this half-century drama of confrontation between experimental and theoretical physics. The issue concerned the relative motion of “Spaceship Earth” and the Universe, as measured against the background of a luminiferous medium supposedly filling all interstellar space. At stake, it seemed, were the phenomena of astronomical aberration, the wave theory of light, and the Newtonian concepts of absolute space and time. James Clerk Maxwell’s suggestion for a test of his electromagnetic theory was translated by Michelson into an experimental design in 1881, redesigned and reaffirmed as a null result with Morley in 1887, thereafter modified and partially repeated by Morley and Miller, finally completed in 1926 by Miller alone, then by Michelson’s team again in the late 1920s. Meanwhile Helmholtz, Kelvin, Rayleigh, FitzGerald, Lodge, Larmor, Lorentz, and Poincaré—most of the great names in theoretical physics at the turn of the twentieth century—had wrestled with the anomaly presented by Michelson’s experiment. As the relativity and quantum theories matured, wave-particle duality was accepted by a new generation of physicists. The aether-drift tests disproved the old and verified the new theories of light and electromagnetism. By 1930 they seemed to explain Einstein, relativity, and space-time. But in historical fact, the aether died only with its believers.
