Excerpt from The Cotton Situation, Vol. 115: November-December 1946 Cotton prices in early December ose gradually from 30. 5 to about 33 cents per pound and on the lhth of the month were about 5 cents above the lowest point reached during the period of the market break beginning in late October. Price trends in November were gradually upward except for a decline of about l-l/2 cents which coincided with the coal strike. Despite the recovery, however the December'lh price'was about 6 cents per pound or 30 dollars per bale less that the peak reached in early Octooer. The largest absolute increases in cotton production from 1950 to 1951 are in Texas. California, and Mississippi, where 2054, 772, and 668 thousand more bales are expected than last year.
