He wanted some evidence that he had something of value within his head. So he wrote the life of Julius Caesar that he might become a member of the French Academy.--Abraham Lincoln was, in my judgment, in many respects, the grandest man ever President ot the United States. Upon his monument these words should be written: "Here sleeps the only man in the history of the world who, having been clothed with almost absolute power, never abused it except upon the side of mercy."--A government founded upon anything except liberty and justice cannot and ought not to stand.
