Against the lethargy and despair of the contemporary Anglophone Caribbean experience, Aaron Kamugisha gives a powerful argument for advancing Caribbean radical thought as an answer to the conundrums of the present. Beyond Coloniality is an extended meditation on Caribbean thought and freedom at the beginning of the 21st century and a profound rejection of the postindependence social and political organization of the Anglophone Caribbean and its contentment with neocolonial arrangements of power. Kamugisha provides a dazzling reading of two towering figures of the Caribbean intellectual tradition, C. L. R. James and Sylvia Wynter, and their quest for human freedom beyond coloniality. This book offers an international perspective of philosophical, conceptual and praxis-oriented issues that impinge on achieving education for all students. It sheds light on the historical, systemic, structural, organizational, and attitudinal barriers that continue to be antithetical to the philosophy and practice of inclusive education within the Caribbean. The first section of the book examines how globalized views of inclusion informed by philosophical ideas from the North have influenced and continue to influence the equity in education agenda in the region. The second section considers how exclusion and marginalization still occur across selected Caribbean islands. It provides both quantitative and qualitative data about the nature and experience of exclusion in selected Caribbean islands, the UK and USA. It discusses how educational leadership is understood, as well as the role of school principals in making inclusion a reality in schools, the challenges experienced and the qualities of education leaders.

Beyond Slavery traces the enduring impact and legacy of the African diaspora in Latin America and the Caribbean in the modern era. This book examines the current food security challenges in the small states with a focus on the Caribbean. The work is in the conjuncture of the Covid-19 pandemic and other global shocks, including the disruption in the global supply chains and the increase in climate-related events. These events have led to an increase in global prices, including the price of food and fertilisers. This book starts by examining the global food security crisis considering the aftereffects of the shocks, then provides a macro-overview of the region by focusing on its ability to invest in agriculture. The results indicate that private sector investment in agriculture has experienced only a slight increase despite creeping inflation. This has exacerbated vulnerabilities in food security, which deteriorated in 2020, undoing nearly a decade of progress in the face of climate change. Detailed attention is paid to food vulnerabilities in 14 Caribbean countries. In the final chapter, a series of policy measures are outlined to strengthen the region's food security position, with a particular focus on innovation and the region's comparative advantages.

Public Health and Beyond in Latin America and the Caribbean: Reflections from the Field explores the diverse and complex public health landscape, from global to regional to local, by considering historical and socio-cultural factors to contextualize the ongoing public health crisis. In recent years, academics, policy makers and media outlets have increasingly recognised the importance of Caribbean migrations and migrants to the histories and cultures of countries across the Northern Atlantic. Memory, migration and (de)colonisation furthers our understanding of the lives of many of these migrants, and the contexts through which they lived and continue to live.
