Excerpt from The Canadian Field-Naturalist, 1933, Vol. 47 This rare and beautiful orchid - the upper pet als white, the lower ones yellowish green and spotted or blotched with deep purple - grew to a height of one-half to one foot. It was found in a ravine about 100 yards wide and equally deep, growing in red clay. In, Canada, it has previously been found at Toronto, Ont., and vicinity, Peterborough, Ont., Montreal, Que, and in several places in the Mon treal district. Excerpt from The Canadian Field-Naturalist, 1954, Vol. 68 IN 1946, the Ontario Department of Lands and Forests initiated a study Of muskrat numbers in the 800-acre Dundas Marsh, part of a game preserve near Hamilton, Ont. In this marsh in 1944, game overseer G. Beattie and other interested naturalists estimated the muskrat population at In August, 1945, under supervision of the Hamilton Department of Health, a 3% solution of ddt. In fuel oil and kerosene was sprayed at one gallon per acre over the southern border of the marsh and nearby ravines to control mosquitoes.
