All Kevin wants is to be like any other high school student and learn how to drive and hang out with his friends. But when your parents run a funeral home, it’s tough to have a normal life. And when you’re a Mormon living in the South, well, that just about triples your weirdness quotient. Especially when an elderly woman from church drafts you into the Granite Girls, a group that records the names on all the tombstones in Armadillo, Arkansas. Try explaining that to the local sheriff who catches you in a graveyard at 6:30 in the morning. One not-so-weird thing about Kevin’s family is the love they have for Marcy—a young African-American woman who’s like the sister Kevin never had. Just as the family prepares to help Marcy renovate the house across the road with money left to her by her late father, a stranger shows up at the Paramount Funeral Home. It’s Ruby, Marcy’s mother, whom she hasn’t seen in twelve years. Soon after Ruby’s arrival, things begin to disappear—and Ruby makes sure Kevin takes the blame. As her threats become more personal, Kevin must find a way to expose Ruby and to convince others of the truth, not only for Marcy’s sake, but to save his own reputation.

Dan wants to help these wandering ghosts find some measure of peace, in the hopes that, he too can finally put his past behind him. But Dan isn’t the only one who speaks with the dead. Janet Ladd also hears their call and intends to use these tormented souls to fulfill her darkest desires. She unleashes bloodthirsty wraiths to do her bidding. We have followed Cate through her life of trials and tribulations, happy events, and sad ones, since her first diary was written in 1863 when she was twenty-two years old. She kept a record of everything that happened to herself, her family and friends, her constant cooking, housework, moves they made, trip they took, marriages, births, and deaths. Her life was the oxcart, whale oil lamps, and the horsedrawn carriage. Cate's life is different in Milford, no longer living on the farm, with Zaph gone all the time. After many moves, they eventually settled into the Gilson house along the Souhegan River, where Cate keeps track of the rising water at the stone bridge. New inventions are now coming along, and grandchildren are visiting, still as her family grows, there is the neverending cooking, cleaning, and Monday wash day as she takes care of four grown men. Cate still finds time to write of the day's happenings in her beloved diary no matter how tired she is at night. Join Cate as she continues on with her life from 1885 to 1899 and her faith in God that sustains her through this arduous journey. All of this work is beginning to take its toll on her life, that when she was young seemed like child's play. The prayer meeting is a barometer of how the Church is doing. -Assistant Pastor Bob Sundstrom, Burns Hill Christian Fellowship, Milford, New Hampshire
